Here, Press Association Sport looks at where all of those involved in 1990 are now and what they are doing. Bobby Robson Robson was the first man since Sir Alf Ramsey to take England so far in a World Cup and went on to enjoy a varied managerial career at PSV, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona and Newcastle. He died in 2009 after a fight with lung cancer. Peter Shilton England’s first-choice goalkeeper in Italy played on until 1997 and now runs a consultancy business with his wife. Boro have had an interest in every World Cup since the war. From Wilf Mannion in 1950 to Martin Braithwaite in Russia this time out and every finals in between, Boro stars - or former and future players - have played on the biggest stage. Striker Braithwaite is the only current Boro player involved in 2018 - but five other former Riverside men are in the mix to give us some reflected glory and a peripheral parochial interest in obscure dead rubber group games. Viktor Fischer is also in the Denmark squad. And La Liga goal machine Cristhian Stuani is there with Uruguay - although Gaston Ramirez didn’t make the cut. Big Ken Omeruo is there with Nigeria. Salah had been a doubt for the tournament after injuring his shoulder during last month’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid. But after undergoing treatment he has been selected for his country’s Group A campaign where they will face hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. The 25-year-old will not meet up with his team-mates until the weekend while he continues his recovery. The news was announced via a post on the Egyptian national team’s official Twitter feed. England began their World Cup training camp on Monday with 16 of their 23-man squad reporting to St George's Park for meetings and training. Chelsea's FA Cup-winning captain Gary Cahill, as well as beaten Manchester United quartet Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford have been given additional rest and recovery time and will not link up with their team-mates until Sunday. That leaves Liverpool pair Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday and will not complete the full squad until early next month. Julen Lopetegui's job at Spain was never going to be about reinventing the wheel, it was always a case of just getting it spinning again with the smoothness and speed to which Spanish football has become accustomed. After the humiliating failure of 2014, the Spanish FA (RFEF) took the decision to keep Vicente del Bosque that was based more on sentiment and respect than the realities of modern football.
