Firefighters didn’t arrive at scene of Manchester bombing until an hour after the injured were cleared as police were forced to use makeshift stretchers to move the wounded, inquiry hears

· January 20, 2021 ·

All the injured had been cleared from the scene of the Manchester Arena bombing an hour before the fire service arrived, the inquiry has heard. The fire service spent nearly two hours arguing over where to meet the other emergency services before deploying, the hearing was told. Images were shown to the inquiry of makeshift stretchers that the police, first aid staff and rail employees used to help transport the badly injured in the meantime. The last was removed at 11.40pm, 54 minutes before Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service arrived, the inquiry was told. The hearing was told the ambulance and fire brigade refused to enter the City Room foyer where the bomb had gone off because they feared it was too dangerous. Instead police officers and members of ETUK, who provided first aid for the arena, tried to save the lives of the most seriously injured. It was only after 43 minutes that two members of the ambulance Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), who were trained to respond to … [Read more...] about Firefighters didn’t arrive at scene of Manchester bombing until an hour after the injured were cleared as police were forced to use makeshift stretchers to move the wounded, inquiry hears

· February 12, 2021 ·

Elon Musk , the world’s richest man, says that he manages to get by on six hours of sleep each night while juggling his portfolio of multi-billion dollar businesses like Tesla, SpaceX , and The Boring Company. ‘I work a lot,’ Musk told podcaster Joe Rogan on Thursday’s edition of The Joe Rogan Experience, which streams on Spotify . ‘Normally, I’ll be in meetings at work until 1 or 2 in the morning. Couple who drove 280 miles from London to go for a four hour walk on Norfolk beach are fined for breaking Covid rules after they triggered huge search and rescue operation during Storm Darcy

· February 9, 2021 ·

Frustrated police officers are still reporting numerous outrageous breaches of coronavirus rules over a month into the third national lockdown. As the government fights to lower infections and ramp up vaccinations, rule flouter are being fined hundreds of pounds after being caught playing golf in groups, hosting house parties and driving long distances for 'fried chicken'. In one shocking case, a couple were fined after their 280-mile trip to the seaside sparked a full-scale coastguard search operation in a raging storm. The pair from London left their car unattended by a Norfolk beach for four hours, causing concern amongst the emergency services with the severe weather. Coastwatch volunteers spotted the walkers parking their car - however when they failed to return hours later the alarm was raised. Four different coastguard boats headed into the water - in the worst conditions seen for 20 years - as Storm Darcy rolled in from the North Sea on Saturday afternoon. … [Read more...] about Couple who drove 280 miles from London to go for a four hour walk on Norfolk beach are fined for breaking Covid rules after they triggered huge search and rescue operation during Storm Darcy

Uber CEO says company may shut down in California if forced to make drivers full-time employees

· August 13, 2020 ·

UBER CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company will likely shut down its services in California for several months if it must pay people as employees instead of contractors. "If the court doesn't reconsider, then in California, it's hard to believe we'll be able to switch our model to full-time employment quickly," Khosrowshahi said during an interview on MSNBC . Khosrowshahi's comments come days after a San Francisco judge ruled the company must treat its independent contractor drivers as full-time employees. San Francisco Superior Court Judge Ethan P. Schulman ruled Monday that ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Lyft must treat their California drivers like employees instead of contractors, which would allow drivers to access benefits including overtime, sick leave, and expense reimbursement. However, both Uber and Lyft have appealed to a higher court following Schulman's verdict, meaning the ruling is put on hold as the trial continues. A hearing is scheduled for August … [Read more...] about Uber CEO says company may shut down in California if forced to make drivers full-time employees

KPMG chairman who told ‘woke’ staff to ‘stop moaning’ about pay is forced to STEP ASIDE amid investigation: ‘Heartbroken’ employees said boss should ‘check his privilege’ after he called unconscious bias complete c***

· February 10, 2021 ·

The UK chairman of accounting giant KPMG has been ousted after 'woke' staff to who urged him to 'check his privilege' when he told a virtual meeting of 1,500 people to 'stop moaning' about the pandemic. Outspoken Australian Bill Michael, who earns a £1.7 million salary, reportedly told consultants asking him about pay, pension and bonus cuts to cease 'playing the victim card'. The 52-year-old also dismissed the concept of unconscious bias as 'complete c**p' and told staff he had been meeting clients for coffee despite lockdown rules, sources revealed. His warning to staff to 'stop moaning' came after KPMG's annual results revealed that its hundreds of partners still earned an average of £572,000 each in 2020, despite the pandemic that is expected to see hundreds of thousands of Britons lose their jobs. But Mr Michael later apologised for his comments and claimed they did not reflect his beliefs. But KPMG said he would now step aside while the 'big four' firm investigates. … [Read more...] about KPMG chairman who told ‘woke’ staff to ‘stop moaning’ about pay is forced to STEP ASIDE amid investigation: ‘Heartbroken’ employees said boss should ‘check his privilege’ after he called unconscious bias complete c***
