“Ought to be on their side”: Ex-general tells Biden to give Ukraine planes
A retired U.S. general said that the U.S. "ought to be" on Ukraine's side "in every way possible" following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky 's speech to Congress on Wednesday. Retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, a former national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence , said that there are "creative ways to help in Ukraine" short of sending U.S. troops into the country, Mediaite reported. This includes giving them planes and other weapons. "If they want a BB gun, give them a BB gun, if they want a rock, give them a rock. If they want air defense, give them an air defense. And for God's sake, give them MiGs too! Poland wants to give them up," he said. Zelensky has been making appeals for aid from other countries, like Poland , during the Russia-Ukraine war, and his address to Congress was no exception. He called on U.S. President Joe Biden to continue putting pressure on Russia through sanctions and other measures "until the Russian military … [Read more...] about “Ought to be on their side”: Ex-general tells Biden to give Ukraine planes

Donald Trump became ‘detached from reality,’ says ex-attorney general
Donald Trump deluged aides with wild voter fraud conspiracy theories after losing the 2020 US election, his top law-enforcement official said in testimony revealed on Monday by a congressional probe that the former president branded a "mockery of justice". Appearing in a pre-recorded deposition at a congressional hearing into the 2021 assault on the US Capitol, former attorney general Bill Barr described his then-boss as having no interest in the facts that debunked his groundless narrative. "I was demoralised because I thought, boy... he's become detached from reality if he really believes this stuff," Mr Barr told the House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection by supporters of Mr Trump. "When I went into this and would tell him how crazy some of these allegations were, there was never an indication of interest in the actual facts," said Mr Barr, who likened addressing Mr Trump's avalanche of false allegations with playing the game "whack-a-mole". The panel is … [Read more...] about Donald Trump became ‘detached from reality,’ says ex-attorney general
Baroness Scotland of Asthal re-elected as Secretary General of the Commonwealth
Baroness Scotland of Asthal has been re-elected as Secretary General of the Commonwealth, in a blow for the Prime Minister who attempted to have her ousted by backing a rival candidate. The Labour peer, who currently holds the post, will now serve for another two years in office, following hours of crunch talks on Friday afternoon at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm) in Rwanda. Boris Johnson had publicly backed Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s foreign minister, as the next Secretary-General. The result comes amid a toxic row between the Foreign Office and Baroness Scotland, with her allies claiming that the Prime Minister has a “vendetta” against her because she refuses to “do the UK’s bidding”. Infighting came to a head in recent days, with friends of Lady Scotland accusing the Government of “sowing discord” among Commonwealth nations by using Foreign Office staff to brief out “vitriolic” personal attacks on her to local media outlets. Government … [Read more...] about Baroness Scotland of Asthal re-elected as Secretary General of the Commonwealth
