Theresa May's bid to do a deal with the Democratic Unionist Party to save her premiership has been plunged into uncertainty. In a move that could jeopardise her frantic attempts to remain as Prime Minister, the DUP is accusing Downing Street of announcing a deal on its MPs voting with the Tories in the Commons before an agreement has been reached. After the PM sent her Chief Whip Gavin Williamson to Belfast to negotiate a deal to keep the Conservatives in power, No. 10 said the DUP had agreed to the principles of an outline agreement. But in a dramatic twist just before midnight on Saturday, Sky sources said No.10's account of the talks had been issued in error and the DUP had not yet reached any agreement with the Tories. "The DUP today (Saturday) held discussions with representatives of the Conservative Party in line with Arlene Foster's commitment to explore how we might bring stability to the nation at this time of great challenge," the party said in its own … [Read more...] about Sky sources: Downing Street made statement on DUP deal in error

Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ Gets the
Photo: TV Times/TV Times via Getty Images Update, June 17: Kate Bush continues to make deals with God and swap places, as “Running Up That Hill” has swapped chart positions to be the U.K.’s No. 1 single. The Guardian gives some statistical context to this feat: Bush is the oldest woman to top the chart, has had the longest gap between No. 1 singles (44 years since her previous No. 1, “Wuthering Heights”), and has surpassed Wham!’s “ Last Christmas ” for “the longest time a song has taken to get to No 1.” When the single hit No. 2 earlier this week, Bush updated her website with a statement: “How utterly brilliant! It’s hard to take in the speed at which this has all been happening since the release of the first part of the Stranger Things new series. So many young people who love the show, discovering the song for the first time.” “The response to ‘Running Up That Hill’ is something that has had its own energy and volition,” Bush continued. “A direct relationship … [Read more...] about Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ Gets the

May’s top aides Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill resign after election
The Prime Minister's joint chiefs of staff Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill have resigned after Theresa May lost her majority in the General Election. The pair have been in the firing line after the PM's gamble of calling a snap election backfired, with disgruntled Conservatives highly critical of the role of Mr Timothy and Ms Hill played in the campaign. Former Tory MP Gavin Barwell will replace the duo as Mrs May's new Downing Street chief of staff. The ex-housing minister served in the Government until losing his Croydon Central seat on Thursday night. Mr Timothy acknowledged that one of his regrets was the way the party's controversial social care reforms, dubbed a "dementia tax" by critics, had been handled. ‘Sadist’ internet troll admits posting ‘sick’ comments about dead people on Facebook
A "sadist" internet troll has admitted posting offensive material on Facebook about young people who died. Paul Hind, 38, called Olivia Burt, a Durham University student who died from head injuries outside a nightclub, a "sex worker" and "prostitute". He also doctored an image of Ms Burt and posted pictures of children who were "clearly terminally ill" on her Facebook page, South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court heard. Hind, from Wark, Northumberland, admitted four separate offences of conveying false information which was indecent or grossly offensive in relation to four dead people. Ms Burt's father, Nigel, said Hind's actions were a "desecration" of his 20-year-old daughter's memory. Advertisement Describing how Hind's postings had made him and Ms Burt's mother Paula feel "physically sick", he said: "The person who carried out this trolling can only be described as a sick sadist who knows that they are adding to our anguish and gets … [Read more...] about ‘Sadist’ internet troll admits posting ‘sick’ comments about dead people on Facebook
Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”
[This story originally aired on February 20.] In July 2020, Daniel Anderl, the son of federal Judge Esther Salas and attorney Mark Anderl, was shot dead by a gunman at the front door of the family's New Jersey home. Daniel Anderl, 20, took a bullet to his chest trying to protect his parents. By the time Judge Salas came to the door, the killer was gone. Her husband, Mark, was wounded. "I have direct evidence that he died heroically, that he had a holy death," says David Oakley, Daniel Anderl's godfather and a family friend. The stranger who came to Judge Salas' door had been holding a package, posing as a deliveryman. Just eight days earlier, a chillingly similar incident took place in California. When attorney Marc Angelucci came to his door to sign for a package, he was also shot dead. "He was just a down-to-earth, at the center of his soul a good-hearted person," Marc's friend, Cassie Jaye, tells CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith. "[Sighs] I was trying to make … [Read more...] about Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”

Max Verstappen would ‘100%’ have more success as Ferrari urged to sign Red Bull star
Ferrari have been urged to explore the possibility of snatching Max Verstappen from their Red Bull rivals by a close friend of the Dutchman. Verstappen leads the drivers' championship by 46 points after just nine races of what is shaping up to be a stellar season for the Red Bull ace. He has overcome the fast start made by Charles Leclerc to put himself firmly in the best position for a successful title defence. He has been helped to do so by reliability problems which have plagued Ferrari in recent weeks. Both Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have suffered mechanical issues which have hampered their chances of success and left Red Bull to run riot at times. Despite those issues, Tom Coronel believes Ferrari would be the better team for his friend Verstappen to represent. The World Touring Cars veteran told the RacingNews365 podcast that he believes the 24-year-old would "one hundred per cent" be even more successful if he raced for the Italian outfit. "I've always said … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen would ‘100%’ have more success as Ferrari urged to sign Red Bull star
