AFTER a warning from Elton John that his time at the top won’t last, Ed Sheeran might have heard enough from rock veterans. But it didn’t stop him hooking up with Sir Mick Jagger for some further rock ’n’ roll wisdom. I’m told the Rolling Stones frontman took a very different view on Ed’s prospects, backing him to go the distance for many decades. Well, Mick should know. The pair caught up as their respective tours rolled up in Dublin. A source tells me: “They’re both great networkers who love music and enjoy talking about life in the business. “So when they realised their tours were crossing over in Ireland, they decided to get together for lunch, picking somewhere very posh but very private to do it out of the way given they are two of the world’s most recognisable stars. “Ed admires Mick enormously for all he’s achieved over a lifetime in music. After years of publicly battling a cigarette addiction, Ed Sheeran took to Instagram to congratulate himself on having kicked the habit. The 'Shape Of You' singer captioned a black and white photo from one of his concerts "celebrating one year of being a non-smoker today." Jacinda Ardern asks Ed Sheeran: Wanna move to NZ? At the time of the interview, the pop star said he had given up, however his latest post marking the one-year milestone indicates it took more than one attempt. In an appearance on Ellen in 2015, Sheeran once again said he was going cold turkey. "I started smoking when I was younger and I'd always say 'ah, I'm going to … [Read more...] about Ed Sheeran celebrates being smoke-free for a year
A big night at the Brits for Ed Sheeran, the singer-songwriter who walked away with a Global Success Award. But despite his international reach, the Shape of You strummer seems to have his heart firmly in the UK: we hear he has bought a property in west London. Holland Park locals tell The Londoner that Sheeran is about to join them in the leafy area after purchasing a multi-million-pound house. He will join David and Victoria Beckham, Elton John and Robbie Williams as a local, and many of his future neighbours are excited to have attracted yet another celebrity. But other residents, we’re told, are concerned about his reputation for raucous parties. One incident in 2016, for example, saw Sheeran cut his face on a sword after some drunken high jinks involving James Blunt and Princess Beatrice. Sheeran, who counts singers Taylor Swift and Ellie Goulding among his friends, may wish to take a leaf out of the Beckhams’ book by sending a note round before any party … [Read more...] about Londoner’s Diary: Is Ed Sheeran heading west with the Beckhams?
THE BBC once again seems determined to consign the UK to near-certain failure at Eurovision – by pinning our hopes on more no-marks.I can reveal that the first of the contenders in this year’s song contest is little-known Rachel Clark. The singer who has been a backing dancer for LITTLE MIX and who DJs as Raya, will battle five other nobodies in the Beeb’s You Decide contest next month as they bid to fly the British flag in Lisbon in May.She will sing new track Crazy, written by upcoming songwriter Samir Elshay.A source said: “The BBC has once again failed to find any singers of any note to step forward and save the UK’s reputation at Eurovision.“Instead bosses have chosen six little-known performers to compete in You Decide.“Rachel is obviously a talented singer but no one knows her in the industry and she doesn’t have much, if any, experience apart from performing at hotels and small gigs.“History proves that when the UK … [Read more...] about BBC pins hopes on little-known backing singer Rachel Clark as UK Eurovision contender
