PARENTS have been warned about the state of their kids’ school meals amid the cost of living crisis. It’s feared childrens' diets will become less healthy as a result of items being cut from the menu. Beef, chicken and some fruits and vegetables are deemed too expensive for companies to serve up. Laca, the school food caterers’ association, made some concerning findings when surveying 160 catering companies in England and Wales which cover more than one million pupils. The survey, in May, revealed a combination of rising food costs, supply chain issues and inadequate funding was putting healthy meals at risk. This includes kids who are on free school meals , which campaigners say could be their only hot meal of the day. Fury as man throws out pregnant wife’s “inedible” meal, orders takeout
A father-to-be is receiving flack online after confessing that he got caught secretly ordering takeout behind the back of his pregnant wife, who had just cooked him dinner. Respondents to his popular post cited the importance of communication in a relationship. Sharing to popular Reddit forum "Today I F***ed Up," the anonymous dad shared his own personal "f**k up" which resulted in an intense marriage row. According to the husband, his wife's cooking is usually "amazing" and "heaps better" than his, but thanks to pregnancy, her taste in food has changed. "Ever since she got pregnant, she's been spoiling everything with too much salt. The food is almost inedible," he wrote. "She went to lie down since she was feeling nappy. I threw away the food since I knew she could not tell and ordered takeout food. I will head outside and eat there. She doesn't have to know. It will be a little secret between me and the delivery guy. No big deal," continued the husband. Valeria Perasso Published 9 October 2017 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing In a textbook for students in Tanzania, boys are strong and athletic, while girls just look proud of their pretty frilly dresses. In a primary school reader in Haiti, pupils learn that mothers "take care of the kids and prepare the food" as fathers work "in an office". There's a Pakistani illustrated book where all politicians, authoritative and powerful, are male. In Turkey, a cartoon of a boy shows him dreaming of becoming a doctor. Meanwhile a girl imagines herself as a future bride in white gown. The list goes on - and knows no geographical boundaries. Gender bias is rife in primary school learning books and can be found, in a strikingly similar form, on every continent, various experts say. It is a problem "hidden in plain sight".
