Plans approved to replace fire-hit Peebles High School

The £46m Peebles High School project was given the green light by planning committee councillors. The old building suffered extensive damage after a fire in November 2019. Scottish Borders Council has approved plans for its replacement despite some concerns over athletics provision and drop-off points. The local authority considered a number of options following the fire but decided that a complete replacement was the best way forward. The proposals were put before its planning committee. Councillors unanimously approved the scheme which should allow work to start in the coming weeks. Sir Keir Starmer has ruled out rejoining the European Union, as he said the UK needs to go forwards and divisions cannot be reopened. Guernsey charity unveils £2m wildlife hospital plans
Published 25 March Share close Share page Copy link About sharing An animal charity in Guernsey has unveiled plans to build a £2m wildlife hospital. The GSPCA is currently looking to secure funds to create the new centre. The current buildings date back as far as 1949, with the most recent being built in 1992. Redevelopment plans include new stables, additional aviaries and water pools for seals. On average, 3,000 wild animals are helped at the facility each year. 'Much needed facility' Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager, said: "It seems a long time since we got planning for a new wildlife hospital at the GSPCA and we are once again looking to the future. "It is such wonderful news that we are relaunching the Wildlife Hospital Appeal and we now need the support and donations to build this new, much needed facility." Nicola Sturgeon raised the issue in a phone call with Boris Johnson. He said he would respond to her letter on an independence referendum "in due course". During the call Mr Johnson also thanked Ms Sturgeon for Scotland's contribution to the UK's military aid for Ukraine.
