The heatwave is about to end with a bang as Brits are now facing up to three days of thunderstorms . The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning that is due to last from Monday to Wednesday but parts of the UK have already been hit by rain. While many will welcome the rain after one of the driest July’s on record, Britain has also had 33 flood alerts put in place in the face of the deluge, 31 of which remain active. The downpours will break the heat that is persisting even today after the amber heat warning has officially expired. By 8am this morning a huge band of rain stretching south from Aberdeen across swathes of the UK and Wales, to south west England will have broken the heatwave for many. There is a risk of torrential downpours, causing travel disruption and some flooding, the Met Office says. Three days of alerts have been issued for most areas, ending on Wednesday. Temperatures topped 34C in parts of the UK at the weekend. Experts say a lengthy period of rain is needed to end the drought declared in parts of England on Friday. This is because rainwater struggles to permeate dry ground, meaning it will run off the dehydrated surface and lead to flash flooding in some areas, the Met Office said. Covering 10 sq miles (25 sq km), the forest is famed as the location for the Winnie the Pooh books by AA Milne. But its landscape has browned and turned tinder-dry in recent weeks as an official drought has been declared . Its streams have dried up and rangers are asking visitors to be extra careful, and take precautions to prevent wildfires and protect wildlife. An amber extreme heat warning is in force and the Met Office also issued its highest alert for fire severity for over the weekend . It warned there is an "exceptional" risk of blazes spreading. WATER leaks have reportedly doubled in some areas during the ongoing drought as the dry earth is causing underground pipe damage. Firms say the heatwave has caused the problem which has put severe pressure on an already creaking water system. A warning from the Environment Agency also said the country’s infrastructure needs upgrading or the UK’s faces the prospect of water shortages in the next 25 years. Around three billion litres of water is lost every day to leaks in England, according to reports. The water regulator Ofwat, however, said provisional figures suggested three quarters of water companies were meeting their leakage targets. Thames Water, which supplies to 15million people in the south and south east England, confirmed to the Sunday Times it has seen a doubling in the number of leaks reported on its system since July 19 when temperatures rose above 40C. Rescuers found Hyder Ali Manir's body on the south side of the 4,408ft mountain five days later Hyder Ali Manir, 20, told the camera “I have no idea where I am going” shortly before he lost his footing. He died as he tried to climb down Ben Nevis near Fort William in Scotland in appalling weather conditions on January 29. A major search-and-rescue effort was launched after his cousin Sabrina Hussain turned back before they reached the summit. Rescuers found his body on the south side of the 4,408ft mountain five days later. He died of head injuries and hypothermia. The video showed him reaching the summit with mist and fog cutting visibility to a few feet. The civil engineering student from Worcester is believed to have stumbled over a rock and fallen to his death.
