The dates on which people get their Universal Credit payments will change twice in May because of the Bank Holidays. It follows changes some people will have seen in April because of the Easter Bank Holiday dates. The Department for Work and Pensions has issued advice to let people know the money will appear on different dates - probably not when they are expecting it. Hundreds of people have spoken out in the past about Universal Credit leaving them in debt - or with little to no cash - so getting the date of payments right is vital if you are planning to pay bills or have to go out and buy food. The Department for Work and Pensions said: "If a payment date is on a bank holiday or weekend, customers will be paid on the last working day before the bank holiday or weekend." And they warned that men are far more likely than women to end up suffering injruies from powertools, lawnmowers, or toppling off ladders. Data for England shows there were 4,764 admissions to NHS hospitals in 2017/18 for injuries from drills and other power tools - up 7 per cent on the 4,446 three years earlier. A further 6,372 admissions were for people ending up in hospital after tumbling from a ladder, while 519 admissions involved an accident with a lawnmower. A total of 50 people have died on Irish roads since January 1 - compared to 45 over the same period in 2018, an increase of 11pc. That is comprised of 29 motorists, seven passengers, eight pedestrians, four motorcyclists and two pedal cyclists. Six people have died on Irish roads in the first seventeen days of April. Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) today launched the Easter bank holiday weekend road safety appeal with the focus on speeding and motorists who still insist on using mobile phones while driving. The Easter safety campaign is the biggest test of the year so far for Gardaí with the largest number of traffic movements since Christmas and an estimated two million people taking to Irish roads for festive journeys.
