Photo: Maya Robinson and Photos by Columbia Pictures, Focus Features, Eureka Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Disney Even if you spent your summers on the couch watching reruns of The Price Is Right with your babysitter Sonia who smelled like sweat and cheese balls stuck in braces instead of going to summer camp, everyone knows what camp feels like, thanks to the tons of summer-camp movies and TV shows (remember Salute Your Shorts ?) that we’ve seen over the years. With summer fully here, we thought it time we revisit some of those camps. What makes a summer-camp movie great has less to do with the experience of applying bug spray and learning to swim in the lake, and more to do with celebrating childhood, rebellion, groups of scrappy outsiders pitted against the more popular, and like-minded people banding together to make something impossible and wonderful happen. (Most of them have first kisses, too, thanks to all those girlfriends at summer camp that the other kids … [Read more...] about 15 Classic Summer-Camp Movies, Ranked

More info Harold Lindsey is an American evangelist and Christian writer who wrote a series of popular apocalyptic books suggesting that the Rapture would occur in the Eighties. Jeremy Clarkson wades in as F1 fans back Martin Brundle amid Gary Lineker Twitter spat
F1 fans have backed Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle following his Twitter spat with Gary Lineker. The legends of motorsport and football have clashed over the protesters who invaded the track at the British Grand Prix. Seven people from climate activist group Just Stop Oil were arrested after the invasion on the opening lap at Silverstone, with five of them sitting down in the middle of the track. The race had already been suspended following Zhou Guanyu’s horrifying crash, but a number of cars still sped by as the quintet held their protest before being dragged away by marshals. In the wake of the incident, Lineker defended the protesters’ actions, tweeting: “If it’s not already too late, history will look back very favourably on these people.” READ MORE: Martin Brundle slaps down Gary Lineker as Match of the Day host backs British GP protesters Brundle then told Lineker not to encourage such dangerous actions, although he defended their right to protest about … [Read more...] about Jeremy Clarkson wades in as F1 fans back Martin Brundle amid Gary Lineker Twitter spat
JK Rowling predictably vows to buy all of Macy Gray’s back catalogue after ‘transphobic’ remarks spark backlash
JK Rowling has vowed to buy all of Macy Gray’s back catalogue after the singer sparked backlash for her ‘transphobic comments’. The singer known for her 1999 single I Try, appeared on Piers Morgan ’s Uncensored last night where he, once again, probed his guest on trans women. The former Good Morning Britain presenter, 57, said to Gray, 54, and his handful of viewers that we’re ‘in an era now basically where most public figures are too terrified to even say what they think a woman is’. ‘I know!’ Gray agreed, before she was asked to describe what a woman is. ‘I’d say a human being with boobs. You have to start there. And a vagina!’ The Harry Potter author who has caused massive upset with her determined and consistent Twitter posts which cause huge distress for the trans community, to put it lightly, has obviously backed Gray all the way. Sharing trans activist and presenter India Willoughby’s post which accused Gray of ‘killer her career’, Rowling tweeted: … [Read more...] about JK Rowling predictably vows to buy all of Macy Gray’s back catalogue after ‘transphobic’ remarks spark backlash
Australia’s devastating floods spur new warning systems
By Emily McAuliffe Published 18 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing On 27 February, Karl Sprogis and his wife Jill spent most of the night anxiously monitoring flood height data from Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. Their town, Lismore, was caught in the catastrophic floods that submerged southern Queensland and northern New South Wales in February and March. Those floods have become the most costly in the nation's history , according to the Insurance Council of Australia. The latest flooding to hit Australia came at the weekend when Sydney was hit with torrential rain. Thousands were told to evacuate their homes and roads were cut by deep water. Back in February, perched on a hill the Sprogis family home was safe, but the couple were worried about their downtown physiotherapy business. It was purposely located on the second floor but even that was not … [Read more...] about Australia’s devastating floods spur new warning systems
Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”
[This story originally aired on February 20.] In July 2020, Daniel Anderl, the son of federal Judge Esther Salas and attorney Mark Anderl, was shot dead by a gunman at the front door of the family's New Jersey home. Daniel Anderl, 20, took a bullet to his chest trying to protect his parents. By the time Judge Salas came to the door, the killer was gone. Her husband, Mark, was wounded. "I have direct evidence that he died heroically, that he had a holy death," says David Oakley, Daniel Anderl's godfather and a family friend. The stranger who came to Judge Salas' door had been holding a package, posing as a deliveryman. Just eight days earlier, a chillingly similar incident took place in California. When attorney Marc Angelucci came to his door to sign for a package, he was also shot dead. "He was just a down-to-earth, at the center of his soul a good-hearted person," Marc's friend, Cassie Jaye, tells CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith. "[Sighs] I was trying to make … [Read more...] about Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”
Joe Bennett: Helped by the arm of Larkin and wonder of invention
OPINION: 'Groping back to bed after a piss' is the first line of a poem. One senses, does one not, that it may not be a poem of a romantic nature. And as so often in this column it is by Larkin, Philip Larkin, prince of grumps. Larkin wrote of how things are. He did not pretend that we stride the corridors of life with head held high and virtue blazing, sure of aim and firm of purpose. Rather he knew we grope in the darkness, stubbing toes and dry of mouth, fogged with sleep and weak of flesh. And I for one appreciate his honesty. It was Dr Johnson who said there are only two reasons to read: the better to enjoy life or the better to endure it. Larkin provides a double bull's eye. To read him is to delight in his honesty, but also to know you're not alone. This poem came to mind because I got a gift. It was an invention that I had not known existed. Had you told me of it two weeks ago I'd have doubted you. But now all I can say is that this may not be an age of miracles but it is … [Read more...] about Joe Bennett: Helped by the arm of Larkin and wonder of invention
