The Avios Rewards scheme is to close this summer. Members of the loyalty scheme, which was formerly known as AirMiles, will instead be moved onto the British Airways Executive Club. Slightly confusingly, Avios will remain as the name of the loyalty points currency, so while you will still be able to collect and spend Avios, you will now have to do so through the British Airways Executive Club . British Airways' Avios rewards programme is to close, with members and their points being transferred to the British Airways Executive Club this summer. The popular reward scheme, which allows users to collect and spend points on flights and hotels, will close by the end of July 2018. Avios launched in 2011, after BA's Airmiles programme was rebranded. All existing members will have a BA Executive Club account set up automatically by the end of July, unless they choose to opt out. Avios – part of BA-owner International Airlines Group – said the move will provide more opportunities for users to collect and spend points, and confirmed all points already accrued will be transferred. THE Avios reward scheme is to close this summer, it has been announced today. Customers with the scheme will be switched to British Airways Executive Club instead. The scheme is writing to its customers via email and letter letting them know about the forthcoming changes, with balances moved across to the airline's reward programme by the end of July. It says the changes are happening to "simplify" the programme and "improve" the way customer can collect and spend their points. Members can earn Avios points when spending at various different shops, which they can then use to purchase flights.
