Young people are disproportionately involved in road accidents and everyone has an opinion as to why and what to do about it. The consensus seems to be they are deficient in attitude, skills and experience. Yet, far from dealing directly with these issues, the suggestions that emerged from various insurance companies this week, such as spy-in-the-cab monitoring, outright night-driving bans and zero alcohol tolerance, seem somewhat Draconian. It’s perhaps worth remembering that, last year, 17- to 25-year-old drivers of all motor vehicles were involved in 46,702 reported accidents, with 59.5 per cent injured, while 40- to 49-year-old drivers were involved in 48,965 reported accidents, with 45 per cent injured. You might be cruising around in your instructors car without a problem but your freedom doesn't truly come until you get your full licence. And that can be tricky. In fact, on average, most people won't pass their driving test until their second or third attempt. The national pass rate for this year to date is 45.8% - but there are a few centres around Coventry and Warwickshire which fall well below that. Wellingborough’s driving test centre is facing closure again. Glamis Hall in Goldsmith Road became the official test centre in September 2016, months after the old centre at Halfords closed. It offers tests to learners on Tuesdays and Thursdays but the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced its last day of operation will be April 11.Heather Saunders, chairman of Glamis Hall For All, said they had not been told why the centre will close.She said: “We at Glamis Hall are very disappointed indeed that the DVSA have decided to close the overspill test centre. “We have built up an excellent relationship with the examiners and driving instructors who have used our premises twice a week for the past two and half years and will be very sad to see them go. “We had hoped the DVSA might increase the amount of days they used the hall as a test centre as we understand that there is always a long waiting list in Wellingborough and were surprised to … [Read more...] about Wellingborough’s driving test centre to close
Driving tests have been cancelled today in some areas due to the adverse weather conditions. A post on NI Direct revealed: "Due to weather - driving tests are currently postponed at Enniskillen, Cookstown & Newbuildings centres."ALL driving tests at Omagh are postponed for today. Berwick is one of the easiest places in the country to pass your driving test according to figures from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
