Callander driving test centre is to close because the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is unwilling to pay an extra £100 per year to keep it open, it has been revealed. The Observer reported last month that the test centre, located at McLaren Leisure Centre, was due to shut on May 23. DVSA bosses now say the decision has been taken because its rental agreement for a room within the facility, used by driving test staff, was due for renewal and McLaren leisure had increased its rental charge. However, the Observer has discovered the increase is believed to be five per cent – which would amount to an additional £100 per year to cover the increased costs. Young people are disproportionately involved in road accidents and everyone has an opinion as to why and what to do about it.
