Hand surgeon sheds light on Johnny Depp’s first-hand testimony of having his finger severed. The testimony was made by Dr Richard Moore, an orthopaedic surgeon from Wilmington, North Carolina. In his testimony to the Fairfax, Virginia courtroom, Mr Moore explained, “It's not consistent with what we see in the described injury pattern or in the clinical photographs.” He also noted that if the injury would have been caused by a bottle, the actor would have had a “severe” fingernail injury but his nail appeared to be intact. However, Depp’s legal hit back with claims that the bottle hit him from an angle instead of head first. … [Read more...] about Surgeon breaks down Johnny Depp’s testimony of severed finger

The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano that devastated Tonga after a massive eruption on 15 January is unlikely to erupt again, say scientists from New Zealand's National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa). Niwa research vessel RV Tangaroa arrived back from a maritime expedition to Tonga last week. Three people were killed and hundreds of homes destroyed from tsunamis generated from the massive eruption, estimated to be 500 times more powerful than the atom bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. "The likelihood of another violent eruption happening anytime soon is quite low," said Kevin Mckay, who led Niwa's expedition to Tonga on board the RV Tangaroa.
