THOUSANDS of pubs, restaurants, hairdressers and bingo halls across England are now open as lockdown measures are eased. July 4 marked the start of the phase three of Boris Johnson's plan to get the country back to some normality while also trying to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Brits can get haircut, watch a blockbuster film and go to church from this weekend as long as the businesses are Covid-19 secure. It means pubs and restaurants will be limited to table service , while hairdressers will have to wear visors as they work . Firms will also have to collect contact details from customers to help NHS Track and Trace to control the spread of the virus. But Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that unlocking the nation relies a lot on the "British public to use their common sense". And if the number of positive coronavirus cases look like they could be getting out of control, local lockdowns will be put in place, like in Leicester . But it won't … [Read more...] about Full list of businesses now open including pubs, hairdressers and cinemas

Map reveals where to find nearest beer garden with heaters
AN online map that helps drinkers locate their nearest pub in London with a heated beer garden has gone viral. More than 1.2 million people have viewed the "Outdoor pubs in London with heaters" map, showing 100 of London's heated outdoor boozers. The pub map was created by pint-loving postgraduate uni student Oli Stevens. He said: “Friends helped me create a list of London pubs with outside heaters. “I didn’t dream it would go viral. Happy drinking.” The map will come in handy from April 12, when Britain's boozers can reopen and serve punters outside. Boris Johnson revealed his roadmap out of lockdown yesterday, and from May 17, pubs will be allowed to serve customers indoors. Mr Johnson unveiled his four-step strategy to get Britain back to normal by 21 June when all restrictions will be lifted. Restrictions will gradually be lifted from March 8, when schools are set to reopen. If you want to make a booking for a table outside at your local boozer, … [Read more...] about Map reveals where to find nearest beer garden with heaters
The taste of freedom? Al fresco dining is set to return to 60 streets around the West End including Soho from April 12
London 's restaurant scene has been handed a major boost as plans to convert 60 streets into al fresco dining hubs were announced. Westminster Council said it will resurrect last year's hugely popular move to allow hundreds of venues to expand outdoor seating capacity by spilling onto the road. The scheme will begin on April 12, when Boris Johnson hopes to reopen hospitality for outdoor service, and stretch into the summer months. It means modest West End pubs without beer gardens will still be able to open at the earliest possible point by applying for these pavement licences. That restaurants were allowed to make use of the street proved a lifeline to hundreds of businesses last year amid tight restrictions on indoor gatherings. Of Westminster's 3,700 restaurants and bars, 560 took advantage of the scheme - which overlapped with Eat Out To Help Out - and the council is encouraging more to take up the offer. London's restaurant scene has been handed a major … [Read more...] about The taste of freedom? Al fresco dining is set to return to 60 streets around the West End including Soho from April 12
Boris Johnson hints Chancellor Rishi Sunak could slash tax on pints in next week’s Budget
RISHI Sunak could slash tax on pints in next week's budget, Boris Johnson hinted yesterday. The PM was urged by MPs to consider giving pubs a boost by slicing their tax and slapping them on supermarket drinks instead. Brits have flocked to supermarket giants to get their hands on booze throughout the pandemic, but boozers have been closed for several months . The Treasury undertook a review on alcohol duty last year, and is mulling over the findings. Changes to alcohol duty could boost pub sales by 100 million pints a year and stop thousands of pubs closing their doors for good this year, the Social Market Foundation said last week. They urged him to add 14p to a supermarket can and slash 36p off the price of a pint down the pub. At PMQs yesterday the PM said it was "an extremely good point which I'm sure will be heard with great interest around the country". Jersey should be top of your wishlist with amazing beaches and superb sights
Thud! Thud! Thud! Sorry about the noise, it’s the sound of me kicking myself for never having been to Jersey before. There’s no particular reason why, I’d just not been, and nor had my wife Debbie. But thankfully that mistake has now been rectified. And splendidly so too. Getting there was a doddle for us: a 50-minute hop from Gatwick – there are flights from all over the UK – then out of the airport in moments. The friendly Hertz hire car desk staff had us heading to our vehicle in minutes. We were staying at the four-star St Brelade’s Bay Hotel, one of the best properties in the Channel Islands. As we were not due to check in until 3pm we had time to explore, so carried on up the coast road past the hotel to St Aubin, a pretty little port with a fort reached by a causeway at low tide (more about tides later) and plenty of shops and cafes. After a wander we found a stall by the harbour selling Jersey ice cream which cried out to be tested – passed with flying colours. We … [Read more...] about Jersey should be top of your wishlist with amazing beaches and superb sights
