In fact, I said goodbye to him and left before he did. Deception!” What we know so far? Musicians and Donald Trump have a fraught relationship. From ordering him to stop playing their music to calling out his politics, some of the highest-profile artists in the world have aligned themselves with, but mostly against, the US president. While several prominent singers have been calling out Trump since as far back as 1989, when he was a promoter for the Rolling Stones (Keith Richards was not a fan), his time as president has prompted many more to criticise him at shows, write protest songs about him, or mock him from their social media accounts. From the end of his campaign to Kanye West meeting Trump in the Oval Office this month, here’s an extensive timeline of some of the most notable moments involving Trump and the music industry. 2016 October After months of statements expressing the Rolling Stone’s distaste at Trump using their music at his rallies, frontman Mick Jagger explains why they are unable to stop him from doing it. “When you … [Read more...] about A timeline of Donald Trump’s relationship with the music industry
Donald Trump has dismissed an intervention by Taylor Swift in US politics and insisted that the global pop star “didn’t know anything”. The US president spoke out after Swift announced her opposition to Tennessee Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn and endorsed Democrat candidate Phil Bredesen. Trump responded by praising Blackburn, who he said “is doing a very good job in Tennessee”. “I’m sure Taylor Swift has nothing - or doesn’t know anything about her [Blackburn],” he continued, before adding: “Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25% less now, OK?” Swift revealed her allegiances in an Instagram post yesterday. She wrote: “In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions. I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we … [Read more...] about Taylor Swift vs. Donald Trump: who will win?

To the sporting world and largely beyond, he's King James, but to US President Donald Trump, LeBron James is no intellectual genius. In a tweet, Mr Trump took aim at two of his regular critics - Mr James and cable TV news personality Don Lemon. His tweet called Mr Lemon the "the dumbest man on television", and then said Mr Lemon "made LeBron look smart, which isn't easy to do". Mr Trump finished the tweet with "I like Mike!" - an apparent reference to favouring NBA legend Michael Jordan in a comparison with James as perhaps the best NBA player ever. Mr James - who last month announced his decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for a second time, this time to come to Los Angeles and play for the Lakers - gave an interview with Mr Lemon on Monday, in large part to tout a new elementary school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. The school, which is a joint effort of the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools, will benefit at-risk children. During the sit-down, Mr James … [Read more...] about Donald Trump vs LeBron James: US President takes on basketball star
