The UK government today issued a blunt slapdown to Donald Trump for pulling US troops out of Syria. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt hit out at the US President's "black and white" approach, suggesting it was "complacent". And he warned the the war against Islamic State, also known as Daesh, is not over - despite the President saying the terror group has been "largely defeated". It comes after Trump announced US troops would be withdrawn from Syria. The President claimed other countries in the region should be able to "easily take care of whatever remains". But Mr Hunt told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "President Trump makes a speciality out of talking in very black and white terms about what's happening in the world. "I think the UK assessment is that we have made massive progress in the war against Daesh but it's not over. Former First Lady Michelle Obama said she will “never forgive” Donald Trump for his role in promoting the “birther” conspiracy theory about Barack Obama. Mr Trump fuelled the flames of those saying her husband was a “secret Muslim” born in Kenya, where his father is from, and not really an American citizen, for several years of his presidency. “The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed. Ms Obama has been mum on criticising the president openly, often saying as she did during the 2016 campaign: “When they go low, we go high.” But, Mr Trump’s continuous attacks on her husband, minorities, immigrants, and other people seem to have pushed the former legal professor. “What if someone with an unstable … [Read more...] about Michelle Obama will ‘never forgive’ Donald Trump for pushing ‘birther’ conspiracy

HBO have told Donald Trump not use Game of Thrones imagery and hinted at legal action after he tweeted a photo of himself with the caption “Sanctions are Coming”. The President mimicked the famous “Winter is coming” phrase from the cable network’s hit show to announce the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran. “We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes,” HBO said in a statement about Trump’s post. The network hinted at possible legal action, tweeting, “How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?” in a reference to one of two fictional languages used in the hit series. In the show's first season, patriarch Ned Stark warns his children that "Winter is coming," a family phrase that warns of impending danger. "FAKE news" was named Collins Dictionary's official Word of the Year for 2017 - and there's a good reason why. It also included ABC veteran reporter Brian Ross and networks and publications Newsweek, TIME and the Washington Post. On August 28, 2018, he attacked Google by accusing the search engine giant of prioritising "fake news" in its search results - a claim the company denies. He took to Twitter to claim the results … [Read more...] about What is ‘fake news’, what is Theresa May’s new security unit and what were Donald Trump’s Fake News Awards?
