opinion USA TODAY Published 4:04 PM EST Jan 14, 2019 The New York Times reported Friday that after President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, the bureau began to investigate whether Trump was "knowingly working for Russia or had unwittingly fallen under Moscow’s influence." This isn't newsworthy By Arthur I. Cyr The report in The New York Times and elsewhere of the FBI's focus on Russian influence on President Donald Trump has news media center stage, but is the item really so newsworthy? Yes, but not for the reasons usually given. According to the reports, after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, some in the agency began investigating whether the president was “working on behalf of Russia.” Trying to do business in Russia, while a candidate for president of the United States, is stupid but not illegal. Then, after intelligence arose that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, special counsel Robert Mueller … [Read more...] about FBI investigation of Donald Trump is playing politics: Talker

David Jackson USA TODAY Published 8:30 AM EST Jan 14, 2019 President Donald Trump mocked news reports Monday that the FBI has investigated him for being under Russian influence stemming from its efforts to meddle in the 2016 presidential election. Citing a Fox News report on lower gas prices being the result of more oil production, the president tweeted: "But this is bad news for Russia, why would President Trump do such a thing? Thought he worked for Kremlin?" Trump's tweet came days after The New York Times reported that the FBI had begun a counter-intelligence investigation on Trump to see if he had been influenced by Russia when he fired FBI Director James Comey in 2017. opinion Robert Robb Arizona Republic Published 6:00 AM EST Nov 12, 2018 American politics is stuck on President Donald Trump's Wild Ride. It's time for the rest of us to get off. Trump wants American politics to be all about him, all the time. For the most part, he has succeeded. The exit polls indicate that Trump was the principal factor in how most people voted in the midterms, to express either opposition or support for him. Trump also wants American politics to be played on his terms. He is generally succeeding in that, as well. Trump is a contagious brawler Trump is a political brawler. He has turned all of American politics into a brawl. And everyone else in the game — opponents, supporters and what should be observers — into brawlers as well. After the midterms, Trump held a press conference to proclaim his political dominance. Republicans for whom he campaigned and who “embraced" him won. Republicans who failed to "embrace" him lost. opinion USA TODAY Published 7:00 AM EST Nov 4, 2018 Letter to the editor: I’m thrilled that President Donald Trump is addressing the birthright citizenship abuse that the long outdated 14th Amendment inflicts on our nation. The 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868 to ensure former slaves and their children were granted citizenship. I highly doubt the Reconstruction Era lawmakers of the day had this institutional abuse in mind, which just weakens our sovereignty and makes us a laughingstock around the world. Trump is right on this issue, and every sane American knows it. I fully support him signing an executive order that abolishes this long outdated amendment. If it’s legally challenged, I’d be happy to leave it in the hands of the newly updated Supreme Court to decide. Does anyone wonder why Trump didn’t back down on his pick of Brett Kavanaugh for the highest court? He already had this move lined up on his Make America Great Again agenda. Donald Trump had touted his "Fake News Awards" before the list was published on the Republican Party website. Unfortunately the website crashed within seconds of the president tweeting a link to the results. New York Times columnist Paul Krugman was awarded the number one spot for a tweet saying "on the day of President Trump's historic, landslide victory that the economy would never recover". It also included ABC veteran reporter Brian Ross and networks and publications Newsweek, TIME and the Washington Post. On August 28, 2018, he attacked Google by accusing the search engine giant of prioritising "fake news" in its search results - a claim the company denies. He took to Twitter to claim the results … [Read more...] about What is ‘fake news’, what is Theresa May’s new security unit and what were Donald Trump’s Fake News Awards?
