American casino mogul Steve Wynn accused of acting as an agent of China in 2017 dealing with then US President Donald Trump

May 18, 2022 by www.stuff.co.nz

The US Justice Department on Tuesday sued Steve Wynn to compel the hotel and casino magnate and Republican mega donor to register as an agent of China. The suit, filed in US District Court for the District of Columbia, argues that Wynn, former CEO of Wynn Resorts, leveraged his relationship with then-President Donald Trump and other members of his administration to advance Beijing's interests in 2017. The US Government said the complaint is the first affirmative civil lawsuit under the Foreign Agents Registration Act in more than 30 years - a sign of stepped-up enforcement efforts under the 1983 law. Wynn, a former finance chairman of the Republican National Committee, is accused of relaying a request from a senior Chinese official asking that the Trump administration remove a Chinese national who had sought asylum in the United States. His activities, prosecutors assert in the lawsuit, included discussing Beijing's interests directly with Trump during a dinner in June 2017 and … [Read more...] about American casino mogul Steve Wynn accused of acting as an agent of China in 2017 dealing with then US President Donald Trump

MSNBC host likens Trump to ‘the abuser’ and Chris Wallace and Joe Biden to ‘the abused’ after chaotic debate

September 2, 2021 by www.thesun.co.uk

AN MSNBC host likened Donald Trump to "the abuser" and Chris Wallace and Joe Biden to "the abused" after Tuesday night's chaotic presidential debate. MSNBC's Nicole Wallace blasted President Trump's performance shortly after the fiery 90-minute debate. Footage of Nicole condemning the president was shared to MSNBC's Twitter at 10.54pm on Tuesday night and has been viewed more than 139,000 times. Speaking to her fellow news anchors, Nicole said: "Chris Wallace did not act as a moderator, Donald Trump did not act as a debater. "Donald Trump was the abuser, Chris Wallace was among the abused. "Also among the abused, his opponent, who had a debate challenger who was cheating." She also insisted the president was not following the rules which both campaigns consented to. "The debate moderator didn't hold his feet to the fire," Nicole added, referring to Wallace, a political Fox News journalist who was chosen by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates to … [Read more...] about MSNBC host likens Trump to ‘the abuser’ and Chris Wallace and Joe Biden to ‘the abused’ after chaotic debate

‘A Civil, Good Relationship’: Jen Psaki Explains Why Biden’s White House Avoided All Out War With Fox News | The Daily Wire

May 19, 2022 by www.dailywire.com

Now former Press Secretary Jen Psaki revealed the reason that President Joe Biden’s White House intentionally avoided all-out war with Fox News during a Wednesday interview. Psaki, who gave her last White House press briefing on Friday, made an appearance at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago for a forum titled “Notes from the Frying Pan to the Fire” — and was asked almost immediately about her often contentious exchanges with Fox News reporters like Peter Doocy. “So I’m just going to get this out of the way. We’re just going to do the Doocy,” IOP Speaker Series Director Jennifer Steinhauer began. “The country was sort of mesmerized by these weekly, or often more than that, sparring that you had with the Fox News reporter in the briefing room.” “Some people think that you hate each other. Some people think you secretly have brunch,” Steinhauer continued, asking, “So I’m curious, what was your true role of those moments in the briefing room, and what was … [Read more...] about ‘A Civil, Good Relationship’: Jen Psaki Explains Why Biden’s White House Avoided All Out War With Fox News | The Daily Wire

The Democrats Are Letting Roberts Off Too Easily

January 24, 2020 by www.theatlantic.com

As they press their impeachment case against President Donald Trump, the Democrats need help from Chief Justice John Roberts. And they’re not going to get it unless they ask for it. Far from securing the 67-vote majority needed to remove Trump from office, Democrats are desperate to flip a paltry four Republican senators just to be able to call witnesses. The conventional wisdom is that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who pledged an acquittal before the trial even began, can use his party’s numerical advantage in the Senate to keep Americans from seeing any further evidence showing that Trump solicited foreign interference in the 2020 election. The Democratic impeachment managers seeking to remove the president have all but accepted their own helplessness, as if there were no one but McConnell to whom they can appeal for basic fairness. Missing from this discussion is Chief Justice John Roberts, whose job it is, under the Constitution, to preside over any presidential impeachment … [Read more...] about The Democrats Are Letting Roberts Off Too Easily

Devastated children’s cries recorded at US migrant border camp

June 19, 2018 by news.sky.com

The desperation and suffering of young migrant children separated from their parents at the US border appear to have been captured in an audio recording. "I don't want them to stop my father. I don't want them to deport him," one child can be heard saying at the start of the clip, released by investigative nonprofit organisation ProPublica. Shouts of "Papa!... Mami!" can also be heard, while one child repeatedly pleads for someone to call her aunt, whose telephone number she has memorised and recites to officials. "I want my aunt to come so she can take me to her house," she sobs. "My mummy says that I'll go with my aunt... and that she'll come to pick me up there as quickly as possible." Will Trump push on with family separations? The ugly reality of migrant camps has prompted a furious backlash, but the president is making a cynical political calculation. The recording gives an apparent insight into the conditions on the southern US border, where … [Read more...] about Devastated children’s cries recorded at US migrant border camp

Ukraine morning briefing: Five developments as Russian civilian killed

May 19, 2022 by www.telegraph.co.uk

A truck driver is believed to be one of the first Russian civilians to die during the war. The man and others were injured in southwestern Russia after an attack in a village on the border with Ukraine, the governor of Kursk region said on Thursday. "Another enemy attack on Tyotkino, which took place at dawn unfortunately ended in tragedy. At the moment, we know of at least one civilian death," governor Roman Starovoyt said on Telegram, implying that the attack came from Ukraine. And in a sign of some sense of normal life returning to Kyiv, the US Embassy has reopened. On Wednesday night the US Senate confirmed that Bridget Brink would be the new ambassador to Ukraine. The US has not had a permanent Senate-confirmed envoy to Ukraine since 2019, when Donald Trump removed Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch from her post. U.S. has vaccinated 20,000 migrants in border custody as part of massive operation

May 19, 2022 by www.cbsnews.com

McAllen, Texas — The U.S. government has vaccinated more than 20,000 migrants and asylum-seekers in U.S. border custody since launching a massive COVID-19 vaccination campaign in late March , the top doctor at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told CBS News. During an interview this week, Dr. Pritesh Gandhi, the chief medical officer at DHS, said as many as 1,000 migrants are being vaccinated every day at 24 processing facilities across the U.S.-Mexico border as part of one of the largest medical initiatives the government has set up for undocumented individuals in U.S. custody. "It is something that I believe is historic, because we are building a health system all along the southwest border, an area that has been historically neglected for years, if not decades," Gandhi told CBS News on Tuesday during a tour of the migrant holding center in McAllen, Texas, one of the sites offering vaccines. Migrants who are not expelled under a pandemic-era rule known as Title … [Read more...] about U.S. has vaccinated 20,000 migrants in border custody as part of massive operation
