Lauren Goodger ‘in hiding’ with ‘suspected broken eye socket’ after being ‘attacked following baby’s funeral’

August 6, 2022 by metro.co.uk

Lauren Goodger is reportedly staying with a friend at a secret address after reportedly being attacked following her newborn baby’s funeral. The Towie star, 35, was reportedly taken to hospital with serious facial injuries in the early hours of Thursday morning. It was reported that Lauren had been attacked hours after she and her ex Charles Drury, 25, had held a funeral for their daughter Lorena, who died shortly after birth last month. Now Lauren is reportedly ‘in hiding with a friend’ as she is ‘terrified’ she could bump into the man who allegedly attacked her. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told Metro.co.uk on Friday: ‘Police were called at 00:37hrs on Thursday, 4 August to reports of an altercation at a residential address in Upminster, Essex. ‘A man, aged 25, was arrested on suspicion of assault. He was taken to an east London police station and subsequently bailed pending further enquiries. Death of morality and trust in schools puts male teachers at risk

April 18, 2017 by www.telegraph.co.uk

Kato Harris was a teacher with a flourishing career apparently ahead of him in a school in Ascot, Berkshire. Then, in December 2014, a pupil he had never taught nor could recall ever talking to accused him of rape. He suffered a 17-month ordeal, when he endured public shame, went through the courts, and saw his career unravel. He was cleared by the jury after just 15 minutes. Mr Harris is now unemployed, living in a bedsit and is unsurprisingly bitter about the whole experience and lack of support he believes he received. Tragically, he now says: “If I knew then what I know now, I would never have become a teacher. I would never work with children again.” Teaching, he warns other men, is too great a reputational risk. As a head teacher for 20 years, I spent my time encouraging people to teach in schools, believing it to be the finest profession one can possibly pursue. So Mr Harris’s remarks are incredibly distressing. But are we in danger here of losing perspective? There … [Read more...] about Death of morality and trust in schools puts male teachers at risk

F1 fans suspicious after Michael Masi ‘signed NDA’ with FIA over Abu Dhabi GP fiasco

August 1, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

Almost a year on from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and tremors are still being felt following arguably the most controversial result in Formula 1 history. Michael Masi oversaw his last event as F1 race director at Yas Marina Circuit, where it was his decisions that led to Max Verstappen claiming his first world championship. It's now been claimed Masi signed a non-disclosure agreement with the FIA to never discuss the race, which many fans have interpreted as further evidence that Lewis Hamilton was dealt a major injustice in the 2021 title decider. Australia's Daily Telegraph reported on the NDA as part of a new interview with Masi, who was sacked as race director on the eve of the 2022 campaign. Motorsport's governing body has been criticised for its failure to properly address the 'Decider in the Desert', and these latest developments have given fans fresh ammunition. "Masi signing an NDA makes perfect sense, and also reinforces the claim that F1 journalists were … [Read more...] about F1 fans suspicious after Michael Masi ‘signed NDA’ with FIA over Abu Dhabi GP fiasco

October 16, 2016 by www.telegraph.co.uk

A furore erupted this week over the news that art history will no longer be taught at A-level . AQA confirmed the decision on Thursday, sending the world of academe to the ramparts in outrage. Rembrandt weeps. Can you believe that art history is no longer being offered at A level? Philistines must not prevail #arthistory#alevels — Sir Anthony Seldon (@AnthonySeldon) October 13, 2016 "Rembrandt weeps", blubbed Anthony Seldon. "Philistines must not prevail." "It’s the new class war’" exclaims Simon Schama. "Classics and art history OK for private school students but state school kids, hey why bother?". The director of the Courtauld Institute is no less indignant : "The demise of its existence as an A-Level seriously misunderstands a subject which is enormously important to the economy, culture and well-being of this country." It's the new class war, as in classroom war: classics and art history OK for private school students but state school kids, hey why … [Read more...] about Art history can’t just be the preserve of the middle class in a nation of art-lovers

Full transcript: Taiwanese Rep. to the U.S. Bi-khim Hsiao on “Face the Nation,” Aug. 7, 2022

August 7, 2022 by www.cbsnews.com

The following is the full transcript of an interview with Taiwanese Rep. to the U.S. Bi-khim Hsiao that aired Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, on "Face the Nation." MARGARET BRENNAN: Representative Hsiao, thank you so much for coming here today to talk to us. It's an intense week. Speaker Pelosi is the highest ranking US official to visit Taiwan in about 25 years. Why is Beijing so furious? BI-KHIM HSIAO: Well, there's no reason for them to be so furious. We have had decades of welcoming congressional delegations to Taiwan. And this has been a norm in our culture. The Taiwanese people are warm and hospitable. We're visiting friends is part of our tradition. And actually one of the most quoted Confucian Analects in Taiwan is "isn't it a pleasure to welcome friends from afar" and so having this as part of the norm of our engagement with the United States, codified in a strong foundation of the Taiwan Relations Act, there's really no reason for them to be so upset. BRENNAN: Well, the US was … [Read more...] about Full transcript: Taiwanese Rep. to the U.S. Bi-khim Hsiao on “Face the Nation,” Aug. 7, 2022

My creepy neighbour installed cameras in his garden to spy on me – but that’s not as bad as what he gets up to at night

August 7, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

A WOMAN has revealed how she was forced to report her ‘creepy’ neighbour after he installed cameras to spy on her. Taking to Reddit, the woman in her 20s explained that she had recently moved into a new home with a middle-age couple next door. She explained that due to the good weather she had been spending a lot of time in her garden which hadn’t gone down well with her neighbours. In her post she wrote: “I haven’t even really met my neighbours until one day, the woman rang my doorbell. “To my surprise, she asked me to start covering up that she has a husband and growing boys and I shouldn’t be showing my body. That men can’t help but look and it’s our, women’s, responsibility to cover our bodies. “I told her that, no and that men are perfectly capable of not looking and perhaps she should teach her husband and sons that they shouldn’t be creeps and I closed the door.” on Neighbour Disputes POOL'S GOLD I'll dig a LAKE in our road to stop … [Read more...] about My creepy neighbour installed cameras in his garden to spy on me – but that’s not as bad as what he gets up to at night

If a Child Is Jailed and No One Is There to Hear Him Cry

August 22, 2019 by www.theatlantic.com

For months at a time, the detention of migrant children seems to fall off the national radar, somehow fading to the background, behind the daily dramas of scandals big and small. And then suddenly, news will erupt: The children don’t have soap. They are freezing. The food is rotten. Where this information comes from is not primarily from journalists but monitors—lawyers and advocates who regularly visit the nation’s detention facilities and border-patrol facilities to document the conditions. They do so not because these sites request the monitoring, but because that monitoring is allowed by what’s known as the Flores settlement, a 22-year-old consent decree that governs the care of migrant children in custody. But with new rules that the Trump administration is expected to publish this week, even that single, infrequent geyser of information could go away. As part of a sweeping proposal to scrap the Flores regulations—including a change that would enable the Trump administration … [Read more...] about If a Child Is Jailed and No One Is There to Hear Him Cry

11 Kitchen Books to Read After You Devour

August 1, 2022 by www.vulture.com

Photo: Matt Dinerstein/FX Watching The Bear isn’t exactly a pleasant experience . The sounds of the kitchen — the ticking of the clock, the whir of the industrial mixer, the clanging of metal pots, not to mention the constant conversations shouted across sizzling pans — make my brain hurt. I could handle only two episodes at a time. After an hour of watching Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) try to keep his late brother’s struggling restaurant open while managing his late brother’s ornery best friend, Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and a full staff of personalities, I needed a break. But I always came back. It’s easy to be drawn to stories of rebels and outcasts. Restaurants are full of both. And professional kitchens have their own lingo, power dynamics, and set of behaviors that look foreign to an outsider, making it a people-watcher’s dream. And then there’s the food! So if you also want to immerse yourself in the thrilling (and oftentimes stressful) world of restaurants, or if … [Read more...] about 11 Kitchen Books to Read After You Devour
