Two Long Island beaches were closed Sunday after a shark attacked a lifeguard during a training exercise, officials said. Officials said the lifeguard was rushed to the hospital, where he received stitches, CBS New York reports . The attack happened about 10:15 a.m. at Smith Point Beach, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said, adding that the lifeguard is in "very good spirits." "We are very grateful he is doing well. I just spoke to him a short time ago," Bellone said Sunday at a press conference. "We have never had an incident like this occur. Hopefully, we never will again." The lifeguard had been playing the role of a victim during a training exercise when the shark bit him in the chest and hand, Bellone said. "If you're going to have an encounter with a shark this is probably the best scenario you could have," Bellone said, adding the lifeguard received immediate treatment from other officials already engaged in the training. A tourist has died after 'losing arm and leg in horrific shark attack at popular Egyptian resort. The Austrian woman, 68, later died in an ambulance from “shock” after the Red Sea horror. Chilling video footage shows her desperately swimming back to shore after “losing an arm and leg” in the attack at the resort popular with British tourists. Videos were filmed by watching Russian tourists who bemoaned the lack of lifeguards or rescuers. The woman’s blood was seen in the water as she struggled - wearing a flipper - to make her way back to a pier. A large crowd watched the drama but no-one was seen entering the water to help the woman. Media mogul Richard Desmond is reviving plans for a controversial £1bn housing development in London’s docklands even after the Government blocked the scheme. Accounts filed this week revealed the businessman has held early-stage discussions with lenders to bankroll the Westferry Printworks scheme on the Isle of Dogs. Mr Desmond’s holding company, Northern & Shell, said bankers had signalled their support for the project. Ministers blocked the 1,500-home development in November last year, overturning the decision of former housing secretary Robert Jenrick. Mr Jenrick’s verdict, which contradicted the advice of the planning inspector, was quashed after a High Court case filed by Tower Hamlets found “apparent bias” in favour of the businessman. A one-minute silence will be staged ahead of Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix in tribute to the victims of the London Bridge terror attack. Eight people were killed and dozens more injured in the atrocity which took place last Saturday night. Canadian Christine Archibald, who hailed from British Colombia, was the first victim to be named after the attack and the promoters of this weekend's Montreal race called on Formula One to hold a minute's silence in her honour. The victim was attacked in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, on Thursday at 21:52 BST, Dorset Police said. Officers said another man was also assaulted, sustaining cuts and bruising, and a woman was pushed to the ground when she tried to intervene. The attacker then allegedly stole an electric scooter and made off towards the Pokesdown area. A 31-year-old man from Bournemouth has now been charged with assault by beating and two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates' Court on Monday. Norway raised its terror alert level after a man killed two people outside a popular LGBTQ nightclub in Oslo early on Saturday. Police said the alleged shooter was known to the police since 2015 as a suspected radical Islamist. The authorities are treating the incident as an "act of Islamist terrorism," the officials said. The suspect "has a long history of violence and threats" as well as mental illness, authorities said. Roger Berg, the acting chief of Norway's domestic intelligence service PST, said the alleged shooter has been on the agency's radar n suspicion of membership "in an Islamist extremist network."
