Dene Michael had it all during the 80s - but now life has taken a drastic turn downhill. The former 80s pop star rose to fame as a member of the band Black Lace, who became face for their novelty party record 'Agadoo'. Dene replaced original band member Colin Gibb in 1986, singing their iconic tune on tours and featuring in another novelty party song 'Wig Wam Bam'. At the band's peak, Michael used to go on holiday six times a year, owned multiple house and even a boat. "Through my career I’ve been top of the tree. Number 2 in the charts. I could go on holiday six times a year," he says on new ITV series Million Pound Pawn. "I bought nice houses, designer watches, a boat, a rolls royce. It was so easy to go and buy what you needed. "After that in the 90s it went down a bit. We didn’t get as much TV. A few years of that and it soon goes. You've just got to realise it doesn’t last forever." Amnesty strips Navalny of ‘prisoner of conscience’ status
Amnesty International said on Wednesday that it no longer recognizes jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny as a "prisoner of conscience." The global rights watchdog cited the politician's past "advocacy of hatred" as the reason behind its decision. It, however, did not mention any specific remarks made by him in the past. At the start of his political career a decade ago, Navalny drew criticism for his anti-immigrant statements. "Some of these comments, which Navalny has not publicly denounced, reach the threshold of advocacy of hatred, and this is at odds with Amnesty's definition of a prisoner of conscience," the London-based NGO said. Watch video 00:37 Borrell: 'We have to sanction the people who are directly related with his arrest' Amnesty continues to call for Navalny's release Over the past few years, Navalny has emerged as Russia's leading critic of President Vladimir Putin by publishing investigations into corruption and leading … [Read more...] about Amnesty strips Navalny of ‘prisoner of conscience’ status

Parents can check kids toys for list of 126 potentially harmful chemicals
PARENTS can check to see if their children's toys to see if they've been made with potentially harmful chemicals It comes after a study by the United Nations found 126 chemicals in hard, soft and foam plastic toys that could cause long-term illnesses in children. In total, UN Environment researchers found the dangerous chemicals in a quarter of children toys based on existing studies. It doesn’t necessarily mean the toys are unsafe as toys sold in the UK have to pass strict safety guidelines first, including limits on certain chemicals. The study found softer plastic toys pose more of a threat to tots than harder ones because children typically own more, play with them for longer and put them in their mouth. The full effect the chemicals have on the body aren't known, but they have been linked to cancer and infertility.
