Prince Harry has reportedly been using his late mother’s influence to make important life decisions. This revelation has been made by royal author and biographer Andrew Morton, on the Pod Save the Queen podcast. There, he touched on Prince Harry’s bond with the People’s Princess and admitted, "I think that Diana's influence has lasted longer than anybody thought because her torchbearers in life, William and Harry, have not forgotten her and have held concerts in her memory.” "Harry himself says that he never makes a decision without referring it to her in a spiritual sense.” "She marked a turning point in the way the Royal Family behaved and through her behavior helped to modernize and make more human the Royal Family.” “So it wasn't big handbags, white gloves, and standoffish. It was more touchy-feely than it had ever been in the past. So she made the Royal Family more relevant to modern times.” … [Read more...] about Prince Harry ‘using’ Princess Diana’s spirit to make ‘important life decisions’

Auberon Waugh
Auberon Waugh's death at the age of 61 is more sad than surprising. His immediate heredity wasn't promising - his father died at 62, his mother at 57 - and he suffered from ill-health all his life, partly resulting from severe wounds sustained during National Service at the age of 18. That may, in part, have accounted for the acidic personality which made him the most verbally brutal journalist of his age. Everyone who met him remarked on the contrast between his ferocity in print and his personal geniality, but this was hard to explain to those who didn't know him, especially if they had been on the rough end of his pen. Apart from health, his background shaped his career in one other respect. He spent much of his life trying to escape from the shadow of his father, the greatest English novelist of his age. This provided an obvious weapon for Auberon's enemies. Philip Larkin joked about "my projected series, Talentless Sons of Famous Fathers - Waugh, Amis, Fuller...", and for … [Read more...] about Auberon Waugh
Boris Johnson vows to fight on despite a flood of resignations
Beleaguered Boris Johnson has vowed to stay on as the UK's prime minister after a flood of resignations left him clinging on to power. He was rocked by the resignation of Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak and health minister Sajid Javid within minutes of each on Tuesday. Facing MPs today, Johnson said “the job of a prime minister in difficult circumstances, when you’ve been handed a colossal mandate, is to keep going". What happened during PMQs? The debate was quickly switched to the events that had sparked the resignations: Chris Pincher. Johnson appointed him as deputy chief whip earlier this year, despite being aware of misconduct allegations against him. But some MPs have said they are more frustrated by the changing line from 10 Downing Street over what Johnson did and didn't know about Johnson. On Wednesday, Johnson said he acted swiftly after hearing the allegations against Pincher. Opposition leader Keir Starmer called his response pathetic and … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson vows to fight on despite a flood of resignations
