It co-stars Emily Blunt as Lily Houghton, a woman determined to find a legendary tree with healing powers at a location far along the Amazon River. The film is based on a ride in the Anaheim, California Disneyland park. Some of us just don't do theme parks. The last time I went on a rollercoaster (by mistake, thinking it was a scenic water ride), I was green for the rest of the day. So when my husband suggested we should take the children to Orlando in Florida, we came to a compromise. I would find as many alternative activities for the family to enjoy, on the understanding we would never set foot in a theme park. The children, Ella, 11, and Ollie, eight, were sure I would relent once we got there. The wildlife park has been dedicated to 'gators' great and small for more than 70 years There's nothing particularly scenic about Orlando's main drag — the sprawling International Drive — with its huge shopping malls, eat-as-much-as-you-want buffet restaurants and big attractions, but head south for 30 minutes by car to the Central … [Read more...] about Have a blast in Orlando WITHOUT a trip to Disney, from whizzing through wetlands on an airboat to shopping at the Florida Mall
We are in the ancient Imperial city of Kyoto, Japan’s cultural and spiritual heartland, in the last days of cherry blossom season. My husband and I and our two daughters, aged four and three, are en route to one of the country’s most iconic temples, Kinkaku-ji – the Golden Pavilion. Japan had been on our bucket list for a while – and front of mind recently, with the Rugby World Cup and Tokyo Olympics next year. The cruise includes daily excursions but passengers can also organise their own trips, such as a visit to Himeji castle, above I had visited before but what held us back from returning was how hard long-haul travel can be with kids – never mind the culture shock of Japan itself. Then there was the lightbulb moment: we realised the best way to tackle a destination as challenging as Japan was by cruise ship.
