I’m an appliance expert – what to do if your dryer isn’t drying your laundry before paying a pro
THERE'S a laundry list of reasons (no pun intended) why your dryer may not be working. The dryer not heating, not turning on or starting, not tumbling, or making a ton of noise, are all signs that you should take a good look at the appliance. Luckily, some appliance experts keyed Reader's Digest in on the steps to take when you suspect your dryer is not up to par. MAKE SURE IT ISN'T OVERLOADED You may be trying to jam too much clothes into your dryer all at once. “It is important to make sure the dryer is not being overloaded,” said Gary Childers, a fabric care scientist and appliance expert with Procter & Gamble. “Overloading the dryer can cause issues with drying performance and noise when too much weight is inside the dryer.” Childers advised to never fill the dryer drum more than three-quarters full. Mortgage lending leaps as buyers rush to get ahead of rising rates

Guest opinion: The SCOTUS decision is wrong: What about us?
With all the progress we make in this country, there are always going to be people who want to actively destroy the nation. These people have no desire to take actions that better serve everyone. Instead, they prefer to block out sound judgment to serve values they want to impose on others. So, I was angry and deeply disappointed but not surprised when the court ruled. What about the people who were raped, experienced incest, or what if they just simply don’t want a kid? What happened to giving people grace when they make a mistake? I’m worried about what this type of regression of progress can lead to. If the right to a person’s body can be taken away in the blink of an eye, just imagine what will happen to contraception and birth control. What is going to happen to things like same-sex marriage or mixed marriage? What is going to happen to freedom of speech? Some people may think I’m being over dramatic, but it’s simply just looking at the bigger picture and how one bad decision … [Read more...] about Guest opinion: The SCOTUS decision is wrong: What about us?

Soaring fuel bills add to ‘dire’ cost pressures facing NHS
Hospitals across Britain face rises in power bills running into millions of pounds as the spiralling cost of living crisis hits NHS trusts. As household fuel bills climb to unprecedented levels, the health service also faces soaring charges as a result of the escalating cost pressures. A survey of NHS trusts across England and Scotland shows they are facing rises of up to £29 million in the three financial years to date. Sharp rises in energy costs caused by factors including the end of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine are also hitting the NHS, figures obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests by Metro.co.uk show. In Nottingham, costs for gas, electricity and oil combined rose from £8.8 million in 2020 and 2021 to £15.8 the following year. The budget, and therefore forecast, for the current financial year is £37.9 million. At St George’s Trust in London , which runs one of the largest hospitals in the UK, the bill for gas and electricity is due … [Read more...] about Soaring fuel bills add to ‘dire’ cost pressures facing NHS
Mum who bagged £210 Michael Kors bag for just £17 explains how you can do it too
Designer bags don't come cheap - but one mum has revealed how she managed to pick up a £210 investment for just £17, and she says it's not uncommon, either. Mum-of-four Jay Cook couldn't believe her eyes when she spotted a 91% saving on a Michael Kors bag in her local TK Maxx store in Wales earlier this month. While the high street chain is renowned for its designer finds, the discount was far more than the usual 20-40% reduction often found on out-of-season stock. Jay, 36, was shopping in the TK Maxx clearance sale in Carmarthen when she spotted the gorgeous leather bag for just £17, reduced from £210. She noticed it on a trip to find some trainers for her eldest son who starts back at school next week. The delighted mum snapped it up instantly and went on to post her amazing find on the Latest Deals Facebook page, which soon garnered over 100 likes. One designer fan wrote: "Well done! I have a Burberry one like this, it's such a handy bag. I'm a bit jealous that you … [Read more...] about Mum who bagged £210 Michael Kors bag for just £17 explains how you can do it too
