Broadcaster Jeremy Vine yesterday led a backlash against proposed tougher road rules for cyclists – but a poll found a huge majority of drivers back them. It came after Grant Shapps suggested cyclists could be forced to have registration numbers, insurance and observe speed limits under a legal shake-up. In particular, the Transport Secretary wants cyclists to abide by 20mph speed limits in the same way motorists have to. BBC presenter Mr Vine, a keen cyclist, appeared to take aim at the plans by posting a mock-up image of a bike with a number plate, alongside the caption 'Yes, I'm ready'. Jeremy Vine, pictured, who is a keen cyclist, appeared to oppose the plans which Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has suggested, including bikes having insurance and registration numbers and obeying 20mph speed limits in the same way as drivers Mr Vine tweeted a mock-up image of a bike with a number plate, alongside the caption 'Yes, I'm ready', pictured Duncan … [Read more...] about We’ve got your number! 91% of motorists back plan to force cyclists to sport registration plates, poll suggests

Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘have no plans to meet Cambridges’ on UK trip
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to see the Cambridges when they return to the UK next month, The Telegraph understands. The couple will visit both the UK and Germany to attend multiple charity events “close to their hearts”, their spokesman announced on Monday. It raised the prospect that the Duke of Sussex might take the opportunity to reconcile with his brother , with whom tensions remain. The pair are not thought to have spoken face to face since last summer, when they unveiled a statue of their late mother , Diana, Princess of Wales, at Kensington Palace. However, although by then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be ensconced in their new property on the Windsor estate, just a stone’s throw from the Sussexes’ Frogmore Cottage , there is no current expectation that they will meet. The visit will be focused on their charity work, sources insisted. The trip will come just weeks ahead of the Duke of Sussex’s expected book launch , which … [Read more...] about Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘have no plans to meet Cambridges’ on UK trip
U.S. stands alone on Israel annexation plan as China backs Palestinians
China has echoed the rest of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in expressing support for the Palestinians and tacit condemnation of Israel's plan to annex a large portion of the West Bank, alongside President Donald Trump's Middle East peace plan. President Xi Jinping spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday, according to China's Xinhua news agency, expressing Beijing's continued support for the demands of the Palestinian people as the world waits for Israel to begin its annexations. The Israeli coalition government—led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu until 2021, after which he will hand power to rival and former Israel Defense Forces general Benny Gantz—has said it plans to annex Israeli settlements in the Palestinian West Bank. The settlements are widely considered to be illegal under international law—including by the United Nations—though some in Israel and the U.S., including Secretary of State Mike Pomepo, dispute this. Iran, proxies threaten Israel over “evil” West Bank annexation plan
The Iranian regime and its allies in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip have warned they will confront Israel if its government pushes ahead with a plan to annex parts of the Palestinian West Bank—a move considered illegal under international law and widely condemned by the international community. The new Israeli coalition government, currently led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, plans to extend Israeli sovereignty to West Bank Jewish settlements and the Jordan Valley, representing some 30 percent of all West Bank land. The annexation will be part of President Donald Trump's controversial peace plan, which has been dismissed by Palestinian leaders as an Israel-designed blueprint for permanent subjugation of the Palestinian people. In a letter sent to Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh published Tuesday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his nation would spare no effort in helping to "eliminate the evil threat posed by the fraudulent, usurping Zionist regime," … [Read more...] about Iran, proxies threaten Israel over “evil” West Bank annexation plan
Meet the Baton Rouge startup that has plans to open 5,000 automated pizza restaurants in the next 5 years
A Baton Rouge company that aims to change the restaurant industry through automation got its start thanks to a bad experience at a north Louisiana McDonald’s. Speed Bancroft said an employee at a Winnsboro McDonald’s yelled at him after he tried to pay for his meal with a credit card. Bancroft said he didn’t notice the sign that said the restaurant’s credit card machine was down. “It wasn’t really a jarring experience,” Bancroft said, sitting back in a jumbled office in the Nexus Louisiana Tech Park. There's a wall-sized painting of a joystick behind his desk, a reminder that the space used to be a video game studio. “But if you’re being paid around $9 or $10 an hour, you’re not going to be happy at that level.” That led Bancroft to come up with an idea for an automated hamburger system. His thinking was by automating some of the basics of food preparation, it clears the way for restaurant operators to make more money and pay employees better wages. “By the time I got from … [Read more...] about Meet the Baton Rouge startup that has plans to open 5,000 automated pizza restaurants in the next 5 years
