Today in the House of Commons, MPs will debate assisted dying for the first time in two and a half years. We have not been asked to vote on prospective legislation for almost seven. A great deal has changed in that time, not least the mood in Parliament. Having changed my own mind on the issue some time ago, my support for the legalisation of assisted dying as a choice for those nearing life’s end has only strengthened in recent years. Similarly, colleagues in my own party and across the House who have previously been sceptical of law change, even voting against previous bills, are reconsidering . That is significant. They increasingly recognise that there is a real and pressing need for us to review assisted dying legislation. As in my own experience, this sea-change in parliamentary opinion is the result of hearing about the failings of the current law from their own constituents. Twelve members of a religious cult known as "The Saints" have been arrested in connection with the death of an 8-year-old girl who die after being refused life-saving medication in the belief that God would heal her instead. Elizabeth Struhs, who suffered from Type 1 diabetes, died on January 7 at her family's home in Rangeville, in the Australian state of Queensland. Her mother and father, who have since been charged with murder, did not give her any insulin in the six days leading up to her death, police said. The couple and other church members held back on calling paramedics until 5:30 p.m. the day after the child had died, it's alleged, because they believed she would be resurrected, according the Courier-Mail newspaper. At least one student says that she survived Tuesday’s mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, by lying on top of a dying classmate. According to a timeline reconstruction published Wednesday by The Washington Post, Miguel Cerrillo’s 11-year-old daughter Miah was in the classroom when the gunman barricaded himself inside. Cerrillo said that he rushed forward after he saw Miah being carried to a hospital-bound bus with several bullet fragments in her side. The heartbroken dad of murdered Logan Mwangi wants to change the law so that estranged parents are told if social services become involved with their biological children. Benjamin Mwangi did not know his five-year-old boy had been placed on the child protection register in the months before he was killed by his mum, stepdad and stepbrother. Mr Mwangi says Logan’s mum Angharad Williamson had stopped him from having contact with his child when she started dating new partner John Cole. He had not seen Logan for around three years when he was found dead in the River Ogmore in Pandy Park, Bridgend, on the morning of July 31 2021. A foster mother who killed a baby she was hoping to adopt has been jailed for 18 years. Laura Castle, 38, was found guilty of murdering 13-month-old Leiland-James Corkill after a court heard she battered the child to death. The toddler had been placed in the care of Castle and her husband, Scott, 35, in August 2020. But five months later, on January 6, 2021, paramedics found Leiland-James unresponsive and floppy at the couple’s home in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. He died the following day after doctors found his heart wasn’t beating and he had a head injury, which Castle claimed was from him falling off a sofa. However, it emerged the foster mum had searched online for what might cause a bleed on the brain while he lay in hospital. Her story began to unravel when a post-mortem confirmed the toddler had suffered a traumatic head injury, which wasn’t an accident. A WOMAN proved good things come in threes after she won the lottery three times in five years. A Maryland woman who won at least $100,000 three times from the lottery has revealed her strategy. The winner, who was unnamed in the lottery's press release , got $100,000 from her most recent win in June.
