BRITAIN is braced for heavy snow and freezing subzero temperatures in the next two weeks as parts of the UK are set to be blasted with icy weather. Dramatic weather charts show areas of the UK will be hit by 5cm of snow before February, as the "Beast from the East" brings plunging temperatures. According to the Met Office the temperature will drop well below average in the last week of January, with snow beginning to fall at the end of next week. Next Friday we can expect up to 5cm in North Wales and Scotland, and up to 1cm in the midlands. After a more settled weekend, we are expecting a brutal final week of the month - with snow covering the whole of Northern Ireland and Scotland, and the very north of England on January 21. STORM Diana has struck the UK and Ireland today — bringing travel chaos as extreme weather closes bridges and 80mph gales leave at least 43,000 homes without power. BRITS face being drenched for 36 hours as "heavy, thundery" showers soak the nation before snowstorms return next week. The Met Office issued a flood warning this morning, with forecasters predicting "homes and businesses" are likely to be swamped with two inches of water. The downpours are set to continue right through Friday and well into Saturday across the southwest parts of the UK, finally passing by 6pm. The warning comes after temperatures plunged as low as -6C overnight - causing freezing fog and ice on the roads this morning. Milder weather is forecast for the next few days in other parts of the country - but the cold snap and snowfall is predicted to return once again after the weekend.
