Devon and Cornwall Police are recruiting officers – but you’ll need to be quick if you want to apply. The force has opened applications for police officers. The deadline to register to apply is midnight on Tuesday. The starting salary is listed as £19,971 for regular applicants or £23,124 for applicants who are serving PCSOs or Specials. Successful applicants will also receive a police pension and childcare vouchers, where applicable. Eligible candidates must be aged 18 years or over by Friday, September 21, and have achieved a standard of education equivalent to A Level. Police Officers must hold a full manual EU driving licence. You cannot apply if you are a member of the British National Party (BNP), National Front or Combat 18, and you must not have tattoos on your face, neck or hands or which could cause offence. A public consultation for residents of the three counties will ask whether they support changes which create one force that would stretch from Bournemouth to the Isles of Scilly. Devon and Cornwall’s Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez told a meeting of the police and crime panel today (Friday) that she will only support the merger if the public are behind it and there is a clear business case to make the change. An officer from Devon and Cornwall Police has been sacked following a gross misconduct hearing. PC Helen Marte-Altagracia has been dismissed from the force after a panel found she accessed confidential data using police computer systems - after previously receiving a final warning for doing the same thing. Devon and Cornwall Police banned the public from the hearing, which took place between April 30 and May 3, due to what it described as "sensitive personal data issues". The notice of the outcome, published by the force, said PC Marte Marte-Altagracia received a final warning after she accessed confidential data other than for a legitimate policing purpose in 2004. In 2015 she again accessed confidential data and subsequently shared the information to a third party, the panel found. Her actions were found to breach the force's Standards of Professional Behaviour; confidentiality,discreditable conduct, and integrity, and she was dismissed without notice.
