Josh Cavallo, who became the first openly gay male professional footballer last year, has spoken about his World Cup dreams and his willingness to compete in a country with heavily restricted gay rights. In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the 22-year-old also spoke about the support he has received from fellow footballers after coming out and his belief that other professionals will follow his lead. This year's winter World Cup will be held in Qatar - a country where Amnesty International has said women and LGBTQ+ people continue to face discrimination. Asked whether he would agree to travel there to represent his home country of Australia in the tournament, Cavallo said: "'I'd definitely go to the World Cup. "I want to show it's okay for everyone. It's not just okay for Josh Cavallo because he's a footballer and he's protected, I want it to be okay for that everyday person." Team combine now part of summer football workouts for Catholic High School
A range of emotions gave Jeremiah Fisher some of the feels of a game day, including the jitters. “When I got here I was excited … and I was nervous, too,” Fisher said. “The older guys have done it before. I watched them and tried to do what they did. And just do my best." Armed with those examples, Fisher, a sophomore running back, worked through his first Catholic High combine Thursday morning at the school. What began two years ago as a pandemic-inspired plan to get video and key data to college football recruiters is now part of the Bears’ summer process. Other area schools, including West Feliciana, do their own version of a combine designed to mimic national combines where top prospects attend. “For us to be able to send a verified size with pictures along with the video rather than it coming by word-of-mouth is a good thing,” Catholic coach David Simoneaux Jr. said. “You know how that goes … people say a guy is 6-foot-1, and then when a school (college) measures him, … [Read more...] about Team combine now part of summer football workouts for Catholic High School
Everton fans fume as Fabian Delph ‘deletes all Toffees posts and unfollows club’
Everton supporters are beside themselves with rage after Fabian Delph deleted his posts of the club on social media. The midfielder is out of contract with the club on June 30, and it appears they will not be offering him a new one. The former England international has seemingly distanced himself from the side he has played 41 games for across three seasons. This has angered some Toffee fans, who have been complaining about the player's actions online. One wrote: "Fabian Delph has unfollowed Everton on insta along with deleting all Everton posts. Ahahahaha." That sparked a wave of angry tweets. West Ham move for Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma on the brink of collapse – and will turn attention to Jesse Lingard
WEST HAM’S move for Arnaut Danjuma is on the brink of collapse. And the Hammers are now turning their attention to former loanee and free agent Jesse Lingard as a replacement. Talks were held with Villarreal about a potential £35m move for Dutch winger Danjuma , but agreeing personal terms have proven to be a sticking point. The Spanish side are open to selling to raise funds for improvements to their squad, but West Ham boss David Moyes now has eyes elsewhere after complications with Danjuma. Moyes is a big fan of Lingard – who was released by Manchester United this summer – after his four-month loan spell from January 2021. Scoring nine goals in 16 games, Moyes hopes the 29-year-old’s return to the London Stadium could increase their goal threat up top. Antonio Conte is building a squad of Spurs s***houses and £60m transfer signing Richarlison will ruffle some feathers
ANTONIO CONTE wants Tottenham to cut out the nicey-nicey, so Richarlison’s s***house streak was always going to appeal. The Brazilian firecracker has a bit of devilment that is seen as a welcome addition to a Spurs squad with a squeaky-clean image. Thirty yellow cards and two reds in five seasons playing up front in the Premier League proves as much. Like his infamous goal celebration in May when he lobbed a lit flare back into the Everton crowd after a vital goal against Chelsea. He is still under investigation for the incident by the FA , who charged him, so he could yet be suspended for the start of the season. Obviously, Spurs will not want their new man getting into that sort of trouble. But Conte does admire that he plays on the edge. Why UK waters could soon become a haven for ‘tigers of the sea’
When surfers in Cornwall saw a huge, iridescent bluefin tuna rising from the water almost in touching distance, they screamed with delight. This sight is becoming more common in British waters due to climate change, conservationists say - and they are asking for the endangered fish to be protected. Currently, EU countries which have a bluefin tuna quota, including Spain and France, can hunt the fish in British waters due to a loophole - when the rules were created, they so rarely ventured this far north that there was no point making our seas exempt. British fishermen are not allowed to catch and sell the fish. Now, there are calls to make our waters a sanctuary for the "tigers of the sea", which are persecuted everywhere they swim due to the high price of tuna flesh. One large bluefin can sell at auction for over £1 million - but the stunning predator is at risk of extinction. Senior Government sources told The Telegraph they "absolutely love" this idea for when Britain leaves … [Read more...] about Why UK waters could soon become a haven for ‘tigers of the sea’
Belle Chasse cornerback Jeremiah Moses looks like hidden gem for Cajuns
A big part of the secret sauce for the success of the UL Ragin’ Cajuns in recent years is discovering hidden gems. UL’s coaching staff just might have done it again with the verbal commitment of Belle Chasse cornerback Jeremiah Moses. The 6-foot, 175-pounder was a basketball player growing up and didn’t pick up football until moving from Shreveport to Belle Chasse for high school. “He’s long and rangy,” Belle Chasse coach Stephen Meyers said. “He’s raw. He just keeps getting better and better each year. I think he’s got a lot of upside. I think he’s going to have a really big season in the fall. I think he’s going to keep getting even better.” Meyers said Moses attending a Rivals camp in Destrehan after the spring season and ran the fastest time in the camp. “A 4.3-something,” Meyers said. “He’s real fast, he’s a fantastic student from a fantastic family. Scott Rabalais: Expect more college sports shakeups such as USC/UCLA and Texas/Oklahoma
It was nearly a year ago when the blockbuster news swept through SEC media days that Texas and Oklahoma were getting ready to leave the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference. For some, it may have seemed like the beginning of the end for college athletics. Actually, it was only the beginning of whatever strange, wild road that college sports is heading down. It’s been a year of shocks for college sports — major realignments, NIL, a transfer portal the size of Alaska — and the aftershocks just keep rolling in. The latest, fittingly, comes from Shaky Town — as the big-rig truckers call it — where Southern California and UCLA are reportedly set to leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten as early as 2024. By the way, that probably means USC’s first game as a Big Ten member would be in the 2024 season opener in Las Vegas. Let that percolate for a moment. USC — THE power on the West Coast forever, or at least until Nike started plowing all that shoe money into Oregon — and UCLA — home … [Read more...] about Scott Rabalais: Expect more college sports shakeups such as USC/UCLA and Texas/Oklahoma
