A Republican primary race in Colorado on Tuesday could indicate just how difficult it will be for Democrats to win in crucial midterm elections that are now less than five months away. Four Republican candidates are battling for their party's nomination in the newly created 8th congressional district in what many believe will be one of the most competitive general election races in the country. The 8th district's population is 39 percent Hispanic—the largest Hispanic population of any Colorado district—and will prove a key test of Democratic support among that key voting demographic. Former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum faces an administrative hearing Wednesday over allegations he improperly accepted gifts from lobbyists. The state Ethics Commission says it found probable cause in January to believe that Gillum, the former Tallahassee mayor, accepted gifts in violation of civil law, including travel expenses in Costa Rica and a ticket to the Broadway show "Hamilton." Administrative Law Judge E. Gary Early is to hear testimony Wednesday in Tallahassee. The judge is not expected to rule this week. If he determines there were violations, the matter would go back to the Ethics Commission for possible sanctions. Former Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum , who narrowly lost the race for Florida governor in November, announced Wednesday he will be launching a voter registration initiative in Florida. Its goal is to help Democrats win the state in 2020 and "evict Donald Trump" from the White House. "We are going to commit ourselves to registering and engaging one million voters between now and 2020's presidential election," Gillum told a crowd in Miami.
