Peppa Pig owner Entertainment One (eOne) has been acquired by US toy company Hasbro for about £3.3 billion.Hasbro, maker of Monopoly and My Little Pony, said that the move to buy the UK-listed firm would “dramatically enhance” its storytelling capabilities. The family behind the Lego empire today snapped up a glittering collection of the capital’s top tourist attractions in a £6 billion takeover deal. Bosses at Merlin Entertainments — the company that runs The London Eye, Madame Tussauds and the Sealife Aquarium, as well as theme parks such as Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park — said they had agreed to an offer from a consortium led by the head of the Danish toy dynasty. The 455p-a-share bid values the world’s second biggest operator of visitor destinations after Disney at almost £4.8 billion — but also involves taking on around £1.2 billion of debt. Jaguar Land Rover and BMW recently announced they are to join forces to develop electric vehicles, but what will the deal mean going forward? And, despite the tie-up, rumours persist of a merger with PSA Group or even a takeover. The BMW partnership will fall short of being any kind of merger but will see the rival firms working together to share the massive costs of developing the next generation of electric drive units (EDUs). It sees BMW and Land Rover reunited as the Bavarian car maker owned the famed 4x4 maker before selling it to Ford in 2000. Ford already owned the Jaguar marque and both were subsequently sold to Tata in 2008. The strategic collaboration will build on the considerable knowledge and expertise in electrification at both companies and provide massive economies of scale in the development of future electric vehicles.
