A TERRIFYING fire tornado ripped through a Derbyshire factory yesterday — as 50 firefighters battled to contain 60ft flames. Footage shows s funnel of fire stretching up several stories from the burning embers of an outdoor storage unit. It contained more than 600,000 bread trays made by Ravensbourn plastics at the facility near Swadlincote, Derbs. They erupted in flames just after 1:40am on Tuesday — sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky which could be seen 26 miles away in Nottingham. Firefighters from three counties were dispatched in ten engines to tackle the blaze. The unit was left "completely gutted" and workers were told to stay home yesterday. A GRANDFATHER has told of the heartbreaking moment his great-grand kids begged for help as they perished in the California wildfires. Ed Bledsoe told CBS News his great-grandson James, five, pleaded: "Grampa please, you've got to help us - the fire is at the back door." The devastated family man told the little boy: "I'm close by son, I'm trying to get in there. "I said 'I'm right by you honey, just hold on. Grampa's coming'". Overcome with emotion, Mr Bledsoe revealed he had left the house that day, unaware the fire was burning towards his home. When he came back firefighters stopped him approaching the property. He told how his wife Melody, 70, wrapped the five-year-old boy and his four-year-old sister in wet blankets. She pulled a final blanket over herself and tried to shield the children. The UK will pledge £212m to help a million girls living in developing Commonwealth nations go to school for longer, Theresa May has announced. The prime minister pledged the cash with the aim of helping children spend 12 years in school at a speech at the biennial Commonwealth heads of government meeting (CHOGM) in London. In front of an audience including Microsoft founder, philanthropist and anti-malaria campaigner Bill Gates, Ms May also urged leaders from the bloc’s 53 nations to work to halve the number of those afflicted by 2023.
