Hashmi tells me she feels tentatively hopeful for the future. “I think coronavirus might change people for the better,” she says. “Some of my friends, who weren’t considering working in hospitals and stuff, now look at clap-for-carers and think, we want to do our part and give back.” She believes coronavirus will create a more compassionate, selfless generation of young people. “I think we’re more aware of others now,” Hashmi goes on. “At the start of this, I was just thinking about making myself safe.
