Sir Alex Ferguson has thanked medical staff for saving his life in his first public appearance since his brain haemorrhage. The ex-Manchester United manager, 76, has been recovering after having emergency surgery in May. In a video posted online by his former club, he said: "Hello, just a quick message. First of all to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals. "Believe me, without those people who have gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. Jose Mourniho says Manchester United are "confident" Sir Alex Ferguson will make a swift recovery following his brain haemorrhage. Sir Alex, 76, remains in Salford Royal Hospital after having emergency surgery on Saturday . At United's pre-match press conference, Mourinho did not reveal whether he had been to visit the club's former manager in hospital or if he spoken to him. "It's private," the current United boss said. "His family asked for privacy and that's what I'm going to respect."
