IF Matthew Wrightson didn’t do as his ex-wife wanted, she’d disconnect his computer, hide the cables and force him to do housework. Even worse, she’d threaten to limit his access to the children if he dared to even think about leaving her. Despite being married for seven years and having three children together, Matthew was rarely allowed free time with them. “If I did overtime at work, for example, and she wasn’t happy about it, she would threaten to pack her bags, [take] the kids and leave the country or even throw me out of the house,” Matthew, 41, a commercial project manager from Peterborough, tells Sun Online. Matthew is one of the increasing number of men who are the victim of coercive controlling relationships. A new study found that more than a third of men in the UK have admitted being a victim of such a relationship, which strips the victim of their liberty and sense of self and became illegal in December 2015. Separate research suggests … [Read more...] about I stayed in an abusive relationship with my wife because she threatened to not let me see my kids if I left – and there are plenty of other men like me
Dating divorced dad red flags
The Netherlands Patrick van IJzendoorn, De Volkskrant Near where I live stands the old dwelling of Italo Svevo, the Italian writer and factory owner. “This England is so different,” he wrote in one of his daily letters to his wife, who had stayed behind in Trieste. With this remark in mind, as well as my own observations on this blessed bit of land since 2003, the vote to leave the EU didn’t surprise me. The romantic anglophile in me even has a soft spot for this audacious, quixotic decision. But from the first moment it was clear that it would end in a quintessentially English muddle. The country was woefully under-prepared for such a momentous move. Apart from a disappointing generation of political leaders there is a lack of long-term planning. The British excel in organising royal weddings, state funerals and Olympic Games, but otherwise improvising seems to be the default approach. And one cannot improvise Brexit. There was imperial nostalgia. I sensed a mood of … [Read more...] about What does the rest of Europe think about our Brexit shambles?
THE boy found wandering the streets claiming to be missing lad Timmothy Pitzen is not him, DNA tests results confirmed. In a bombshell revelation, the so-called 14-year-old boy was actually a 24-year-old man named Brian Michael Rini. The 14-year-old was found "bruised and skinny" wandering the streets of Newport, Kentucky, and told police he was Timmothy, who went missing eight years ago after his mum killed herself. He said he had just escaped on foot from two burly kidnappers who held him against his will in a motel and "kept running across a bridge into Kentucky." Police detectives interviewed him on Wednesday and asked him questions that only Timmothy would know, as well as giving him a DNA test. He said his birthday was October 18 2004, the same date as Timmothy's. POLICE PROBE Sgt. Bill Rowley, of the Aurora Police Department, said before the results were revealed: "I have been advised by our investigators that they plan to continue their investigation this morning, however, the … [Read more...] about Timmothy Pitzen – Teen, 14, claiming to be missing boy is NOT him, DNA test results reveal eight years after he vanished
