Newcastle United will send West Bromwich Albion into the Championship if they take all three points on Saturday at St James’ Park. The Baggies will arrive on Tyneside in reasonably good form after beating Manchester United 1-0 and taking a point from Liverpool last weekend. However, it’s worth remembering that at one stage in the season West Brom fans were declaring victory over United after their January acquisition of Daniel Sturridge on loan. Back then, the injury-prone striker snubbed Newcastle after a loan move between United and the Baggies had been sanctioned by both clubs for a temporary switch until the end of the season. But at the same time, Sturridge was supposed to be turning up to complete the move at the club’s Benton base, the striker was instead at the Hawthorns putting pen to paper for Alan Pardew’s side before being paraded as a big signing. It was a move that left a sour taste in the mouth for Newcastle but they have gone on to secure Premier … [Read more...] about How Daniel Sturridge’s January no show proved to be a great thing for Newcastle United
England footballer Daniel Sturridge stunned passers-by in Manchester when he broke into his famous goal celebration dance. Onlookers were amazed when the West Bromwich Albion player, on loan from Liverpool, broke out his robot dance moves in St Ann’s Square while in town filming a campaign with the snack Pringles. He was seen busting some moves with amused onlookers in the glorious sunshine. The striker partied on the streets in a hooded top and jeans for the campaign which is due to launch ahead of World Cup 2018. A smiling Rio, who arrived for his time in front of the cameras in a van just after Daniel had left filming, stopped to pose for selfies with fans. The appearance of Rio led fans to wonder if Sturridge had fallen foul to a prank by the Reds legend, who is known for setting up stars as part of an ITV show called Rio Ferdinand’s World Cup Wind-Ups. … [Read more...] about Has footballer Daniel Sturridge been pranked by Rio Ferdinand?

The striker moved to The Hawthorns on loan from Liverpool at the end of the January transfer window, hoping some regular football would bring a goal-scoring streak to boost his chance of going to Russia this summer. However, a hamstring injury during only his third appearance for the club has seen Sturridge miss the last seven matches and meant he was unavailable for England’s friendlies against Holland and Italy in March. The 28-year-old is fit again now, though, and could feature when West Brom play Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. And Moore believes there is still time for Sturridge to force his way into the plans of England manager Gareth Southgate. … [Read more...] about Darren Moore: Daniel Sturridge could still make England’s World Cup squad
Daniel Sturridge has cost West Bromwich Albion a staggering £50,000 a minute since his January loan move, but Alan Pardew has defended the signing of the Liverpool striker. Struggling West Brom paid £3.8 million to land the England international but he has played only 77 minutes of football and the deal is under increasing scrutiny after he was ruled out for the next two games. In a week when there were revelations over the club’s poor financial position, Sturridge will miss Saturday’s visit of Burnley and is likely to be out of next weekend’s crucial game against Swansea, ensuring he will miss seven matches in a row. The 28 year-old joined West Brom in a bid to revive his hopes of playing at the World Cup but those chances are now over after an excruciating period for the forward, who suffered from persistent injury problems at Liverpool. Pardew’s recruitment of Sturridge was seen as a huge boost in their fight for survival, after scrapping bids for … [Read more...] about Daniel Sturridge has cost West Brom a staggering £50,000 a minute since January loan move from Liverpool
