Furious TV viewers have signed petitions demanding that channels axed by Virgin Media be returned. All 10 UKTV stations were dumped from its platform after the two firms were unable to agree a new distribution deal. One petition, signed by thousands of people so far, said: “Customers of Virgin Media will be expected to pay the same for a vastly reduced service. “Virgin must lower the cost of all TV packages that included UKTV channels.” Another read: “We want Virgin Media to keep all of the UKTV channels.” The dispute came after Virgin sought what UKTV, home to channels such as Dave and Gold, called a multi-million pound cut in fees. Amazon Prime will test the water with 20 live games between 2019-2022, but for the time being, BT and Sky retain the monopoly they've held since 2013. SCORES of Virgin Media customers were overcharged up to £240 for breaking their broadband, phone or television contract early, according to the telecoms watchdog. Some customers were charged these leaving fees because they moved house to an area which doesn't support Virgin Media before their contract ended. Virgin Media have said that they are not willing to say how many of their 5.5million UK customers had to pay these expensive exit fees. The telecoms company charges customers up to £240 for leaving their contract early, even if they are forced to end the contract because their new home isn't covered by Virgin Media's service Virgin Media's broadband service is only available to around half the homes in the country. Ofcom has said that they have reason to believe that Virgin Media broke regulations by charging such high fees and not making it clear that if customers moved house they would have to pay the fees or sign up to a new fixed term contract. The regulator’s decision follows a formal investigation launched in June last year into the fairness of the company’s terms and conditions, specifically its charges for ending a contract early, after receiving complaints from customers. The probe included circumstances when customers had to end a contract because they were moving house.
