On the flip side, City are top and can’t stop scoring, with SIXTEEN plundered in their five games so far. Manchester City take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The game will be played at the Etihad. Manchester City have won nine of their last 10 Premier League matches against Crystal Palace, including each of their last four. The Citizens have lost just one of their last 24 Premier League matches at the Etihad Stadium (W14 D9 L1). Crystal Palace are the first team in top-flight history to lose and fail to score in their opening five games of a league season. Only two teams in English football league history within the top four tiers have failed to score in their opening six league games of a season – Burnley in 1997-98 (third tier) and Halifax Town in 1990-91 (fourth tier). Halifax hold the all-time record, as they failed to score in their opening eight league games in 1990-91. The only previous occasion that a side has lost their opening six games in a Premier League season was by Portsmouth in 2009-10 and they ended the season bottom. The last occasion that … [Read more...] about Man City vs Crystal Palace: Latest updates from league clash at the Etihad
The League Cup is fast becoming Crystal Palace’s principal source of cheer. Roy Hodgson ended the night as the second manager within a few weeks to have secured the first win of his tenure at the club in this competition, courtesy of an anxious squeeze beyond Huddersfield Town, on an occasion when the locals revelled less in progress and more in the return of Pape Souaré. The hope is that Hodgson builds on this to enjoy a more productive and protracted spell in charge than the sacked Frank de Boer. Souaré, recovered from the horrific car crash that had threatened his career, emerged for the second half here and made fine blocks to repel dangerous centres from Aaron Mooy and Scott Malone as the home side rather clung to the slender lead chiselled out back when they had been dominant. Not that Hodgson, Souaré or any of the first-team squad will care. After the dismal start they have endured in the Premier League, any kind of win will do. “You don’t repair … [Read more...] about Crystal Palace’s Bakary Sako kickstarts Roy Hodgson reign against Huddersfield
CRYSTAL PALACE, Leicester City and Watford have contacted Celtic for defender Jozo Simunovic, according to reports. All three Premier League sides are scrambling around for defensive reinforcements just hours before Thursday’s 11pm deadline. The Daily Mail report the 23-year-old has attracted interest from Burnley and Huddersfield. The Scottish giants value the Croatian defender at £9million who played a pivotal role in the Bhoys winning the treble last season and going the whole league campaign unbeaten. Despite signing Harry Maguire, the Foxes have struggled to land another centre back with failed bids for Jonny Evans and Calum Chambers. After losing the first three Premier league games of the season -Palace have been scratching around for a defender. Under-fire Eagles boss Frank De Boer has so far failed with a bid rejected for Liverpool stopper Mamadou Sakho and they are pushing for Manchester City reject Eliaquim Mangala. Hornets boss Marco Silva is looking to make his … [Read more...] about Leicester, Crystal Palace and Watford all chasing £9m-rated Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic
LEICESTER CITY have rejected an offer from Crystal Palace for winger Demarai Gray to be used in a swap deal with Andros Townsend. The Foxes are believed to be interested in signing former Spurs man Townsend, but baulked at the £27million asking price. The London club are then believed to have asked for Gray and cash in exchange for Townsend. Both wingers are struggling for game time at their respective clubs, but there might be a few eyebrows raised if Leicester allow one of their brightest talents to leave. Gray starred for England U21s in this summer’s European Championship as Aidy Boothroyd’s side reached the semi-finals. And many will have expected this to spur him on to a first-team spot for Craig Shakespeare’s Premier League troops. For Townsend meanwhile, it’s not been plain sailing under new Eagles boss Frank de Boer. He was used as a wing-back during pre-season, but failed to convince de Boer that he could play … [Read more...] about Leicester reject Crystal Palace’s bid for Demarai Gray involving swap-deal with Andros Townsend
STOKE have reportedly made a £15million bid for Tottenham star Kevin Wimmer. The Telegraph claims Mark Hughes is moving for the centre-back despite already signing Kurt Zouma and Bruno Martins Indi this summer. Stoke are the latest team to switch to three at the back and clearly feel that Wimmer can help them push on in their quest for a European finish. But whether the Austria international fancies a move to the bet365 Stadium remains to be seen. West Brom remain keen on signing Wimmer as a replacement for Manchester City target Jonny Evans. While SunSport can exclusively reveal that Crystal Palace have made a bid for his services. Spurs are happy to offload Wimmer after spending a club-record £40m on Davinson Sanchez. And it’s now down to the player to decide his future, with the club offering the most first-team football likely to be favoured. Stoke boss Mark Hughes bans his players from … [Read more...] about Stoke look to hijack Crystal Palace and West Brom’s moves for Spurs ace Kevin Wimmer with £15million bid
CRYSTAL PALACE have signed Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah on loan. The 19-year-old will join the Eagles for the upcoming season and is in line to make his debut against Huddersfield on Saturday. SunSport revealed the Dutchman was on the verge of joining Palace on Wednesday, and the 19-year-old is delighted to have finally completed the year-long deal. Fosu-Mensah told CPFC.co.uk: “The manager spoke to me about coming down to join Crystal Palace and it was clear that he wanted me to be part of his squad which as a player gives you a great feeling straight away. “I must now repay that back by putting in some good performances for the club. “I am only 19 years old and still have a lot to learn and therefore getting the opportunity to play more games on a regular basis will help my development.” The youngster is well-known to Selhurst Park chief Frank de Boer following their time together at Ajax before United snapped up the youth star in 2014. And … [Read more...] about Crystal Palace confirm the signing of Manchester United starlet Timothy Fosu-Mensah on a season-long loan
FRANK DE BOER wants Manchester United’s versatile teenager Timothy Fosu-Mensah to team up with him again at Crystal Palace. As a result the Eagles’ £20million swoop for Arsenal’s Calum Chambers has been put on ice. SunSport understands Palace have been working hard behind the scenes and have now agreed a fee of around £20million, including add-ons, for the Gunners’ 22-year-old England international. However De Boer won’t sign-off the deal until he finds out if Manchester United are willing to let them have his former Ajax protege Fosu-Mensah on loan. Watford were thought to be front-runners to land the 19-year-old Reds defender but the Palace boss has one major trump card to play. De Boer was the youngster’s manager at Amsterdam Arena during his formative years and he hopes that will appeal to Jose Mourinho, who wants the Dutch kid to get more Premier League games under his belt. The Eagles manager wants a right-sided defender for his … [Read more...] about Frank De Boer wants Man United star Timothy Fosu-Mensa to team up with him again at Crystal Palace

SWANSEA centre-back Kyle Bartley has been targeted by Crystal Palace and Stoke. The 26-year-old, who has one year left on his contract at the Liberty Stadium, is also wanted by Garry Monk at Middlesbrough but has Premier League interest. Monk coached the ex-Arsenal defender at Leeds last season and wants him at the Riverside after his impressive season in the Championship. His form has also led to Palace looking at putting together a deal as they prepare to replace Mamadou Sakho, who was on loan from Liverpool last season but too expensive to sign permanently. Stoke boss Mark Hughes is also looking to bolster his back line and is hoping Bartley will add to competition at the Bet365 Stadium. His contract situation at Swansea means he could go in a cut-price deal rather than losing him for free in a year. Bournemouth attempted to sign the ex-Arsenal man in the January transfer window but moved for Nathan Ake as their centre-back signing of the summer. Leeds were also interested in taking … [Read more...] about Stoke and Crystal Palace ready to fight for Swansea star Kyle Bartley
Seb Larsson says Sunderland cannot bemoan their luck after another defeat in the Premier League. The Black Cats were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City yesterday, but saw a fine effort from Jermain Defoe bounce back off the post with the game still goalless. It was a sense of deja vu after Defoe hit the bar at Goodison Park last weekend, only for Everton to score a crucial second goal, in their 2-0 win, a minute later. Larsson felt his side’s ball-winning work was excellent against Pep Guardiola’s star-studded City side, but he was frustrated with their failure to do more with it. The Swedish midfielder said: “To be fair, I don’t think we can put much more effort into it. “I think we can definitely have better quality. “We won the ball back really well in the first half, but we didn’t use it – we gave it away, won it back then gave it away. “We can definitely improve that. “We need to keep plugging away, we definitely can’t … [Read more...] about Sunderland midfielder Seb Larsson says Cats can’t blame bad luck for Manchester City defeat
