BBC Three will return as a TV channel in 2022, the corporation has said. After ceasing operations in 2016, the TV channel was replaced with an online-only version, available on iPlayer. The BBC said it will aim to double investments on BBC Three commissions over the next two years following the success of shows such as Normal People, Rupaul's Drag Race and Fleabag. From January next year, it is expected to start re-broadcasting between 7pm and 4am each day, and will be targeted at audiences aged 16-34. As a result, CBBC programmes will finish at 7pm. Advertisement The announcement comes after the BBC 2020/21 annual plan indicated there remains an audience for broadcast television on BBC Three. Charlotte Moore, chief content officer at the BBC, said the channel has been a success story, backing "creativity, new talent, and brave ideas". SAS star Ant Middleton axed by Channel 4 after ‘inappropriate comments’ to female staff
Ant Middleton was axed by Channel 4 after complaints were made by female crew over “inappropriate comments”, the Mirror can reveal. Yesterday we told how TV bosses said they will never work with the star again because of his “personal conduct”. And the decision came months after he was heavily criticised in June last year after he branded Black Lives Matter protesters “absolute scum”. But his BLM remarks were not the sole reason for the decision to ditch him from the SAS Who Dares Win series. A number of staff raised concerns with makers Minnow Films and Channel 4 during an end of year review where they were allowed to speak anonymously. At the end of 2020, the allegations and complaints from a number of women regarding Ant’s comments towards them on set were then investigated. They felt the way he spoke to them was “inappropriate”. Following the investigation, Channel 4 held meetings and decided to stop working with Ant, 40, and informed him of this decision on Monday. … [Read more...] about SAS star Ant Middleton axed by Channel 4 after ‘inappropriate comments’ to female staff

COVID-19: Brazilian P1 variant may spread more easily and could evade immune system, scientists find
The first assessment of the Brazilian variant of COVID-19, newly identified in the UK, shows it may spread more easily - and evade the immune system. Scientists from Brazil and the UK estimate the variant, known as P1, is 1.4 to 2.2 times more transmissible than previous versions of coronavirus circulating in Manaus, the Amazon city where it originated. It is also able to evade between 25% and 61% of protective immunity from previous infection, according researchers at Imperial College London and the University of Sao Paulo. The study has not been peer reviewed.
