How to create Instagram ‘Live Room’ for group video chats that ANYONE can watch

· March 2, 2021 ·

INSTAGRAM has launched a new feature called Live Rooms that will let you chat with up to three friends at the same time. It's a bit different from other virtual chat platforms because anyone will be able to watch your live conversation. Previously, only two people were able to be involved in a live chat on Instagram. Live Rooms has changed that to a maximum of four. Instagram has suggested people could use the feature for talk show or podcast purposes. The feature started rolling out globally on March 1 and should soon be avaliable to everyone. How to create an Instagram Live Rooms chat To use Live Rooms you'll need to make sure you've updated your Instagram app. Then, open the app, swipe left so you're on the camera screen and then swipe through the options at the bottom of the screen until you're on 'Live'. Once you've added a title you'll need to tap the 'Rooms' icon to add your guests. You can search for a guest to add or accept people who are … [Read more...] about How to create Instagram ‘Live Room’ for group video chats that ANYONE can watch

Climate change: Global CO2 emissions bounce back to pre-COVID levels, International Energy Agency study finds

· March 2, 2021 ·

Global emissions have rebounded to worrying levels after a historic decline in 2020, according to new data. And the International Energy Agency (IEA), which has compiled the data, says ensuring that 2019 marks a definitive peak in global CO2 emissions will be "extremely challenging". The IEA says the COVID crisis in 2020 triggered the largest annual drop in energy-related carbon dioxide emissions since the Second World War. It also says avoiding a rebound in emissions requires "rapid change" around the world in how energy is used and produced. In April 2020, global emissions registered their largest ever monthly drop. But by December they were two per cent higher than the same month a year earlier. Advertisement "The rebound in global carbon emissions toward the end of last year is a stark warning that not enough is being done to accelerate clean energy transitions worldwide," said Dr Fatih Birol, the IEA executive director. "If governments … [Read more...] about Climate change: Global CO2 emissions bounce back to pre-COVID levels, International Energy Agency study finds

Daft Punk faces unmasked – inside the group, their shock split and the funny reason they wore robot helmets

· February 23, 2021 ·

DAFT Punk came to superstardom in mysterious circumstances – now they've left in the same way. The French duo announced they were parting ways after 28 years in a new video released yesterday, but no one knows why they're calling it quits. The break up video titled ' Epilogue ' is a clip from their wordless 2006 film Electroma showing the pair walking through the desert. One of them blows themselves up as the other walks off alone to the sunset before the years 1993 to 2021 appear on the screen. "Hold on, if love is the answer you're home," go the lyrics to their song Touch, which plays over the end of the clip. It's the dramatic end of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter's collaboration which saw them scoop six Grammy Awards, amass a legion of millions of fans, and build a combined fortune of around £50million . But their lasting legacy will be as one of the most influential acts in dance music history whose solo work and tracks with the … [Read more...] about Daft Punk faces unmasked – inside the group, their shock split and the funny reason they wore robot helmets

The future of the automobile lies in bytes not horsepower

· January 2, 2021 ·

If you buy a conventional car these days, you may rest assured that nothing basic will change in your automobile for, let's say, the next seven years until you will, statistically, buy a new one. In the not too distant future, however, you may have to be prepared for your good old vehicle to get an overhaul "every three months," says Claus Gruber, an expert for automotive software at the Strategy& consultancy. "You'll likely get permanent software updates on your car's functional and safety features, similar to those you get on your smartphone or laptop computer already today," he told DW. Gruber is an engineer and co-author of a Strategy& study of the fundamental challenges faced by global automakers as the industry moves into a future dominated by IT-based technology solutions . Under its most likely scenario, the consultancy expects carmakers' software development costs to double over the next 10 years, with the outlay for autonomous driving solutions estimated to be … [Read more...] about The future of the automobile lies in bytes not horsepower

A journey with Greece’s last nomadic shepherds

· January 2, 2021 ·

For the past 53 years Eleni Tzima and her husband Nasos Tzimas have herded their livestock some 150 kilometers (241 miles) between summer pastures in northwest Greece's isolated highlands down to their winter home in the lowlands. The Tzimas family is part of a millennia-old tradition of transhumance , or the seasonal movement of animals between fixed grazing grounds. But it's a dying one: they are some of the last still practicing this way of farming in the country. During the summer months the couple, both in their 80s, live in a makeshift hut, using solar energy to power a radio, cellphones and lights. They're among the oldest pastoral shepherds to take part in an annual trek, known as "diava", in the mountainous Pindus National Park near Greece's border with Albania. Tzima, who says her husband's ill health means the 2020 trek would likely be their last, describes their way of life as hard but rewarding. "We struggle every day from dawn to dusk. I've never had a day … [Read more...] about A journey with Greece’s last nomadic shepherds
