US Navy tests ‘solar satellite’ that can beam power to ANYWHERE on Earth from space
THE US Navy has fired a pizza box sized satellite into orbit that generated enough electricity to power an iPad. The Photovoltaic Radiofrequency Antenna Module (PRAM) was launched in May 2020 and harnesses light from the sun that it converts into electricity. According to CNN , the experimental tech is attached to a drone that orbits the Earth every 90 minutes. It's designed as a prototype for a future system to send electricity from space back to any point on Earth. "To our knowledge, this experiment is the first test in orbit of hardware designed specifically for solar power satellites, which could play a revolutionary role in our energy future," said Paul Jaffe, PRAM principal investigator and co-developer of the project. "Some visions have space solar matching or exceeding the largest power plants today - multiple gigawatts - so enough for a city," he told CNN. While the technology in its current form cannot transfer power back to Earth, future versions could … [Read more...] about US Navy tests ‘solar satellite’ that can beam power to ANYWHERE on Earth from space
I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned whether I’m good enough’, says Katie McGlynn as she discusses life after Corrie
THERE was no going back for Katie McGlynn when she bid ta-ra to Coronation Street in October 2019, after six years on the cobbles. As viewers dried their tears following her harrowing exit story line, which saw her character, Sinead Osbourne, die from cervical cancer, Katie threw herself into auditions. She swiftly landed a part in BBC1 drama The Syndicate and there were promising conversations about another new show. The soap-quitting gamble, it seemed, was paying off. Then came Covid-19. With filming impossible under social-distancing rules, the television industry ground to a halt, casting a shadow over Katie’s vision for a glittering post-Corrie first year. “I put all my energy into the universe, expecting amazing big things, and then it all backfired,” says Katie, 27. “All production had to stop. Everything’s stalling, even now.” AM I GOOD ENOUGH?' Almost a year on, with very little having changed, the Rochdale-born actress admits she’s suffered a crisis of … [Read more...] about I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned whether I’m good enough’, says Katie McGlynn as she discusses life after Corrie
Madison Beer on mental health battle, social media trolls and becoming the artist SHE wants to be
IT has been an emotional and often difficult journey for Madison Beer in the run-up to her debut album’s release. She was discovered at the age of 12 by Justin Bieber after uploading a cover of Etta James’s song At Last to YouTube. But the New York-born singer thought her dreams had ended when she parted company a few years later from Scooter Braun , the former manager of Taylor Swift , and was dropped by her record company. But today, at 21, she says the experience made her stronger and helped her grow into the artist she has become. “I look back and it was so difficult for me to even wrap my head around it, as it hurt so much,” says Madison on a call from her home in Los Angeles. “Then, I was 16 and I thought my world had been ripped out from under me. “It was terrible. But I look at it now and it was a blessing in disguise. “I am who I want to be and I have my artistry, so I’m grateful that it happened. And in Life Support, I’ve made the album I wanted … [Read more...] about Madison Beer on mental health battle, social media trolls and becoming the artist SHE wants to be
Disney films have special rules banning smoking, swearing and more
We don't know about you, but Disney films have certainly had the power to traumatise us over the years. Whether it is the death of Mufasa in The Lion King , the death of Bambi's mother in Bambi, or the entirety of The Black Cauldron, Disney has the power to bring a lot of emotions. However, there is a specific set of things you will not see in their films now. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019, Disney Film Chief Alan Horn made some revelations about how the the studio can utilise 20th Century Studios from the previous 21st Century Fox studios that they purchased that same year. Reflecting on the differences between Fox and Disney, he said: "With Fox, we can make movies that right now I say no to. "Take Bohemian Rhapsody , which is PG-13. It's a hit movie and very, very good. But there's no way we could make it under the Disney label because the characters smoke cigarettes and other content." So, it's clear that Disney films have a clear no smoking policy. … [Read more...] about Disney films have special rules banning smoking, swearing and more
