I was one hour and 40 minutes and eleven miles away from London’s new Amazon Fresh supermarket before I had a clue what I’d spent in there. I was already home and munching on my impulse-purchased cinnamon scroll from Britain's first 'no till' store before a receipt of my purchase popped up on my phone screen. I immediately clicked through to the Amazon Shopping app to assess the damage. For £18.89 - not terrible, but not exactly cheap either. I visited the new supermarket at 59 The Broadway, Ealing, west London, on Friday as it drew its first flocks of shoppers curious to try out the experience. What do you think of Amazon Fresh - will you shop there? Join the debate in the comments below... How it works Surveillance technology allows shoppers to simply scan in using a QR code then place items in their bag. Mark Anderson-Hammersley was one of the few patients not behind a screen. He was lying in bed, breathing heavily with the aid of a CPAP machine. The oxygen mask obscured most of the 57-year-old engineer's face but his eyes were open. Unlike many of the other patients on Warrington Hospital's intensive care unit, Mark was fully conscious. This was back in October 2020 when the second wave of COVID-19 infections was sweeping across England's North West. Advertisement Mark told me he had spent most of the year shielding. "I've got diabetes and I'm overweight so they're my risk factors. So to be honest for me it's still early days," he says. BUNGLING cops spent months "honeytrapping" innocent man Colin Stagg after Rachel Nickell was stabbed to death and sexually assaulted on Wimbledon Common 25 years ago. We reveal how police used "deceptive conduct of the grossest kind" to try to get their prime suspect to confess in return for the promise of S&M sex while Rachel's true killer walked free. Who is Colin Stagg? Unemployed Stagg became the most hated man in Britain when he was accused of knifing Rachel Nickell to death in 1992 .
