Shoppers are paying up to 180 per cent more for vegan food than for the equivalent meat-based product, research has found. Four in five vegan goods cost more than their meat versions, according to a study commissioned by sports insurance brand Insure4Sport. It was noted that Marks & Spencer's £2.25 Plant Kitchen 'No Pork' sausage rolls were £1.45 more expensive than their 80p meat alternative - both of which weighed 120g. Meanwhile, Waitrose's £3.75 Vegan Chilli with Soya Mince and Rice, which weighs 400g, costs £1 more than its 450g meat counterpart. Many ingredients in the vegan products are more affordable, but the price can be driven up by development methods such as blending stages and heat processing. BORIS Johnson hinted the north is set for a major infrastructure boost to railroad the nation to build back from the pandemic. The PM , speaking to railway chiefs yesterday, outlined plans to speed up major projects saying he wants the Department for Transport (DfT) and Network Rail ‘to halve the time and slash the cost’ of projects. The 48-year-old actor - who played Marcus Dent on the ITV soap from 2007 to 2014 - has made a Depop account to try and get rid of his unwanted clobber. Covid-19 has left a lot of people out of work over the past year and one of those affected has been Charlie - but he's found the perfect way to get a bit of extra cash in the bank. The US House of Representatives approved a $1.9 trillion (€1.57 trillion) coronavirus stimulus fund in the early hours of Saturday morning. Lawmakers passed the bill — aimed at giving money to individuals, businesses, states and cities hit hard by the pandemic — on a narrow, near party-line vote of 219 to 212. President Joe Biden has been pushing for the relief package, saying it will be used to stimulate the economy and create new jobs. All Republican representatives voted against the bill, which will now go to the Senate, where many progressive Democrats are also keen on resuscitating a drive for an increase to the minimum wage.
