An archive photo MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – A Belarusian mountaineer who was on board the Mi-8 helicopter that was forced to make a crash landing in the mountains of Tajikistan is alive, Anatoly Glaz, head of the department of information and digital diplomacy (spokesperson) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, told BelTA.“According to preliminary information, all the mountaineers who were on the helicopter board are alive and found shelter in a makeshift camp. One Belarusian national is among them,” he said. A joint rescue operation is currently underway. “The Belarusian Embassy in Tajikistan keeps in touch with Tajikistan's emergency service and will provide all the necessary assistance to the Belarusian nationals,” Anatoly Glaz said. Photo: Paul Cossey Archant A pilot miraculously escaped unharmed after his aircraft crash landed at Beccles Airfield. The pilot of the Piper PA-18 Super Cub made a precautionary landing at the airfield on April 7 this year following an engine oil leak and a reduction in oil pressure.In an Air Accidents Investigations Branch (AAIB) correspondence report, it states the pilot had left his home airfield at Crowfield, near Norwich, on a cross country flight.When the aircraft was in Lowestoft, at a height of 1,900ft, the pilot noticed oil dripping onto his leg and cockpit floor when he decided to head back.After concerns the engine might fail, he decided to make a precautionary landing at Beccles, but as the aircraft decelerated it flipped to the right and the main wheels ran onto the grass, causing it nose over and land upside down. Paraglider airlifted to hospital after crash landing in Gower
A paraglider has been airlifted to hospital after crash landing on Gower. Rhossili coastguards received an emergency call about the incident into the side of Rhossili Downs on Sunday afternoon. Officers were joined by coastguard helicopter, from which a paramedic was lowered. A spokesman for Rhossili coastguards said: “Luckily the helicopter was very close and got to the casualty very quickly. “When Rhossili Coastguards arrived the casualty, paramedic and members of the public were over the side of the hill so we set up safety ropes and helped prepare the area for the extraction of the casualty. “Mumbles coastguard arrived to support, with ambulance paramedics and an air ambulance helicopter. “The casualty was carried via stretcher to the air ambulance and transported to hospital”. The 71-year-old, who was flying solo, escaped unharmed while the impact led to the partial collapse of the nose landing gear and bent the propellers of his light aircraft. In a report from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch covering the crash landing, which occurred on Thursday, March 29, the pilot explained during his first approach to the runway he realised the aircraft was too high so went around again. While he achieved a better approach angle during his second attempt he was still higher than he should have been and therefore chose to steepen his approach by making a late selection of full flaps.
