Pakistan: Senate election deals a blow to Imran Khan

· January 4, 2021 ·

Pakistani Premier Imran Khan will seek a vote of confidence in the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) following a major setback in the upper house elections on Wednesday. The move is aimed at restoring confidence in Khan's leadership after his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party failed to win a majority in the 100-member Senate, despite having a numerical advantage in the lower house. Members of the National Assembly in the capital Islamabad and four provincial assemblies vote for the Senate members. Upper house lawmakers are elected for six years, however, all of them are not elected at the same time. On Wednesday, elections were held for 37 Senate seats. After the vote, opposition parties – mainly former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (N) and former president Asif Ali Zardari's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) – now enjoy the support of 53 members, and the ruling alliance of 47 members. Ruling parties generally secure a majority in the Senate. … [Read more...] about Pakistan: Senate election deals a blow to Imran Khan

Mark Ronson is secretly dating Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace

· March 3, 2021 ·

MARK Ronson was already the best-connected man in music but now he’s dating a daughter of Hollywood royalty. I’ve learned the super-producer has for several months been quietly seeing American actress Grace Gummer, whose mum is Oscar winner Meryl Streep. He has even been introduced to Mamma Mia! icon Meryl . Londoner Mark was photographed having a meal with Grace in New York last September but I’m told they have grown closer and been spending more time together when he has been in the States. A source close to Mark said: “He is definitely dating Grace. Things have become romantic. “Lockdown restrictions have made things more difficult, especially when he has been back in the UK, but they are seeing how it goes and are getting along. “Mark is pretty private, so he has kept the whole relationship low-key but it really seems to be heating up.” He has been taken back to Grace’s family home to meet her parents — Meryl and her long-time husband, US sculptor Don … [Read more...] about Mark Ronson is secretly dating Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle are embroiled in a legal dispute with a small Filipino business owner over his Archewell deodorant name, which he says he's willing to “fight to the death” for, The Sun can report. The royals, who set up their foundation -- named after their young son Archie -- after relocating to LA from Britain last year, are disputing the use of the term 'Archewell Harvatera' with a man named Victor Martin Soriano. Cobblestone Lane LLC, which represents Harry and Meghan and is based in Beverly Hills, is pursuing legal action over the name of his brand of natural deodorants, first reported by World Trademark Review . Soriano filed in July 2020 in the Philippines, months after the royals launched their foundation in April, and has since shared his company's official theme song and choreography online. The Sun has reached out to Archewell for comment, but has not receive a response.
