WE now have until October 31 to work out an exit deal with the EU which the majority of MPs agree with. As Parliament has now been suspended until October 14, it is unclear what kind of deal will be made. Why is there a Brexit delay? Britain had been due to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019. However, after UK MPs rejected the withdrawal deal the former Prime Minister Theresa May had agreed with Brussels - EU leaders eventually agreed to a six-month extension to the exit process until October 31, 2019.The UK can leave the EU before this date if a withdrawal agreement is ratified between Britain and Brussels before then. May did have plans to go back to the Commons in early June to give MPs a fourth chance to vote on her Withdrawal Agreement (WA). MPs on all sides were ready to vote down down May's WA for the fourth time, which resulted in her announcing her resignation. On May 24, she said she was stepping down as the Prime Minister and she stepped down as Tory leader on June … [Read more...] about Brexit latest news: Why is there a delay and what happens next?

With CBD showing up everywhere, US regulators announced Tuesday they are exploring ways the marijuana extract could be used legally in foods, dietary supplements and cosmetics. The US Food and Drug Administration said it will hold a public hearing May 31 to gather more information on the science, manufacturing and sale of cannabis compounds such as CBD. In the meantime, it issued more warning letters to companies for making unapproved health claims about CBD products. Products containing CBD are already in stores and sold online, so it's easy to believe there must be something special about the ingredient. But the claims are largely unproven and quality control standards don't exist. A look at what we know as US regulators work out what will and won't be allowed: WHAT IS CBD? CBD is one of more than 100 compounds found in marijuana. It's extracted using alcohol or carbon dioxide in factories. It's added to oils, mixed into creams and lotions and sold in candies and liquid drops. … [Read more...] about What happens if you put CBD in your latte? Moving from a quiet street to a busy one could raise your risk of developing a brain tumour, a study has suggested. Scientists have delved into the effects of ultra-fine particles, tiny pollutants mainly emitted by road traffic and burning coal. Data showed the risk of getting a brain tumour jumped by 10 per cent for exposure to an extra 10,000/cm3 of UFPs each day. McGill University researchers calculated this would lead to one new case every three years per 100,000 people. They said the 10,000/cm3 spike in daily UFP exposure was the equivalent of moving house from a quiet stress to a congested one. Scientists have delved into the effects of ultra-fine particles, tiny pollutants mainly emitted by road traffic and burning coal Results also showed daily exposure to 50,000/cm3 raised the risk by 50 per cent against those exposed to 15,000/cm3. Daily UFP ranges varied from 6,000/cm3 to 97,000/cm3 in both cities and surrounding areas they looked at – Montreal and Toronto. Before her daughter was born, Belinda Knott couldn't help but wonder if she would ever make it out of the hospital with her beautiful baby girl in her arms. The 36-year-old mother, from Melbourne's Coburg, had prepared for the worst after her placenta started failing during pregnancy before she suffered a pre-eclampsia. She was forced to give birth to her daughter Lyra Clarke at 26 weeks, five days via an emergency C-section on the night of March 24, 2018. Her little girl spent the next first four months of her life in intensive care after she was born weighing just 519 grams - six times less than the average newborn baby. Lyra was so tiny, her mother could even slide her engagement ring over her wrist. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Ms Knott spoke candidly about how her brave daughter defied the odds to become a thriving 19-month-old toddler. The number of vegans has been rising in the UK – up by 360% over the past decade. At the moment there are more than half a million in this country, and as ever more disturbing information proliferates regarding the costs of meat and dairy production to the environment, many more look set to switch from steak to seitan. With vegan foodstuffs now commonplace in supermarkets and chefs getting creative with animal-free offerings, what’s stopping the remaining 99% of us? Well, it might just be the reputation. Who wants to be labelled a sanctimonious tofu tout or a clean-eating vanity case? Which is how vegans still tend to be perceived, despite the likes of Brad Pitt and Ellen Page flashing their credentials, Emma Watson going to the Met Ball in an “animal-friendly” dress and Beyoncé investing in a vegan meal delivery service. It’s time the lifestyle’s profile got a make-over. Sean O’Callaghan 42, London, Fat Gay Vegan blogger and PR. Founder … [Read more...] about This is what a vegan looks like…
