An investigation has been launched at Westminster into smart motorways in response to growing safety concerns. The inquiry by the Commons' Transport Select Committee will also examine the impact of the controversial traffic management system on tackling congestion. Smart motorways involve using the hard shoulder of the multi-lane carriageway for vehicles to increase capacity. However, worries have been mounting over the danger they pose . Earlier this month, a coroner investigating the death of 62-year-old grandmother Nargis Begum on a section of smart motorway on the M1 in South Yorkshire, referred Highways England to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider if corporate manslaughter charges were appropriate. Couple double the value of their house with stunning renovation and it’s now worth £2million
A SAVVY couple managed to double the value of their house with a smart renovation - and it’s now worth £2 million. Mum Tracey Gill and her husband bought the house in a small village near East Sussex in 2016, and have been transforming it ever since. Tracey says her husband gave her a fairly wide brief when house-hunting, explaining he said: “Find a house ripe for transformation in the prettiest location. I knew I could change any house we bought so the important factor was the land and location.” The house, which they bought for £1.25million, dates back to 1730 in places and had low ceilings - not great for Tracey's 6ft4ins husband. Describing the state they bought it in, the mum-of-two said: “It was covered in cream pebble dash with concrete roof tiles, a north facing conservatory on the front of the house, modern leaded light windows, low ceilings, dark rooms, artexed walls, cheap fittings, decades old carpets, pink shag pile in the bathroom and an unimaginative … [Read more...] about Couple double the value of their house with stunning renovation and it’s now worth £2million
Queen ‘delighted’ for Prince Harry but warned him to uphold his family’s values
The Queen told Prince Harry she was delighted he and Meghan had “found happiness”, we can reveal. But during their call, she asked Harry to uphold his family’s values. In a surprise appearance on The Late Late Show, Harry told host James Corden his move to the US was about “stepping back, rather than stepping down”. As he and Corden enjoyed a traditional British cream tea on an open-top bus tour of LA, Harry spoke of Meghan, revealing he knew she was “the one” on their second date. He admitted dating for any of the Royal Family was “flipped upside down”, and, unlike most couples, he and Meghan had spent their first dates in 2017 at home. He said: “We got to spend an enormous amount of time just the two of us. “There were no distractions, and that was great. “It was an amazing thing. We went from zero to 60 in the first two months.” During the interview, Harry said media attention in the UK had created a “really difficult environment” that was “destroying my mental … [Read more...] about Queen ‘delighted’ for Prince Harry but warned him to uphold his family’s values
Prince Harry ‘revels in new freedom – but freezes when it comes to the Queen and William’
Prince Harry's appearance on The Late Late Show unveiled a rarely seen side of the former royal as he rapped, danced and spoke candidly on a variety uncomfortable topics during a skit with James Corden. In his first interview since stepping down as a royal, Harry even performed a rendition of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme tune as the pair visited the mansion where the show was filmed. During the open bus tour, Harry spoke adoringly of 'amazing' son Archie and couldn't hide his adoration as wife 'Meg' was brought up. The clear joy at speaking about his boy and Meghan Markle came in stark contrast to Harry's tense responses when quizzed about brother Prince William and grandmother The Queen, observes body language expert Judi James . As he discusses his grandmother with Corden, Prince Harry becomes instantly protective and guarded, according to Judi. While as Corden jokes about playing Prince William on The Crown, Harry becomes suddenly serious and as his smile … [Read more...] about Prince Harry ‘revels in new freedom – but freezes when it comes to the Queen and William’
Jeff Koons and ‘Fait d’hiver’: When is plagiarism art?
A Paris court of appeals has found pop artist Jeff Koons guilty of copyright infringement. Koons' 1988 Fait d'hiver sculpture copies a photo for a French clothing manufacturer's ad campaign, and Koons is to pay damages to the advertising designer for the unauthorized imitation, according to the court. The accusation is not new, and shouldn't come as a surprise even to Koons. It is not the superstar's first conviction for copyright infringement . He regularly has to defend himself against accusations of plagiarism — and just as regularly, he loses the lawsuits. It is however safe to assume that Koons can afford the best lawyers, being one of the world's best-known contemporary artists as well as the most expensive. Jeff Koons Koons' Rabbit sculpture was sold for a record $91.1 million (at the time, that was about €81 million) at an auction in New York in 2019, allowing him to reclaim the title of the world's most expensive living artist at auction from Britain's David … [Read more...] about Jeff Koons and ‘Fait d’hiver’: When is plagiarism art?
