VIRGIN Media users are reporting a major outage that appears to affect thousands of paying customers across the UK. The mysterious issue appears to have begun just before 4pm on Monday afternoon, and has become so bad that Virgin Media has advised users to call customer support tomorrow – because help lines are now too busy. The issue seems to be affecting several Virgin Media services, including internet and landline. Outage tracker Down Detector reveals that thousands of Brits have reported the issue. Of these, 60% complained about their internet, 20% said they weren't getting network reception, and 18% reported TV issues. The eagerly-awaited Love Island finale could reportedly be pulled from TV amid an ongoing dispute between ITV and Virgin Media. ITV has written to Virgin threatening to withdraw some of its biggest shows - including Coronation Street, Emmerdale and The Only Way Is Essex - as soon as this weekend if they can't reach a deal, the Guardian reports. Four separate insiders claimed an ultimatum had been sent as the companies do battle over video on-demand rights and the carriage of ITV's main four channels. The TV giant lost the rights to broadcast UKTV channels after it failed to strike a new deal amid a row about fees. The dispute meant that millions of Virgin Media customers lost 10 channels from midnight on Saturday, including Drama, Really and Good Food. UKTV is jointly owned by the BBC and US Discovery and often airs repeats of BBC original shows like Red Dwarf, as well as running new series like Taskmaster. Virgin customers have lost access to 10 UKTV channels following a row over fees. Free-to-air channels Dave, Drama, Home, Really and Yesterday were removed from Virgin cable boxes at midnight on Saturday after talks between UKTV and Virgin Media broke down.Paid-for channels Gold, Alibi, Eden, Good Food and W have also been dropped.This leaves about four million Virgin households without their usual access to comedy panel game Taskmaster, sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf or re-runs of classic comedies like Only Fools And Horses and Porridge.On-demand and catch-up programming for the channels will also no longer be available for Virgin customers. SCORES of Virgin Media customers were overcharged up to £240 for breaking their broadband, phone or television contract early, according to the telecoms watchdog. Some customers were charged these leaving fees because they moved house to an area which doesn't support Virgin Media before their contract ended. Virgin Media have said that they are not willing to say how many of their 5.5million UK customers had to pay these expensive exit fees. The telecoms company charges customers up to £240 for leaving their contract early, even if they are forced to end the contract because their new home isn't covered by Virgin Media's service Virgin Media's broadband service is only available to around half the homes in the country. Ofcom has said that they have reason to believe that Virgin Media broke regulations by charging such high fees and not making it clear that if customers moved house they would have to pay the fees or sign up to a new fixed term contract.
