NEW ZEALAND showed Ireland what it really means to be world No1 as they humiliated Joe Schmidt's side in Tokyo. England — their semi-final opponents — beware. Ireland were suffocated and strangled by the defending world champs and put in one of the most impressive performances in Rugby World Cup history. Aaron Smith got the All Blacks under way with two first-half tries and Beauden Barrett, Codie Taylor, Matt Todd, George Bridge and Jordie Barrett added to the tally with seven tries in total. It was a humiliating end to the career of captain Rory Best and outgoing Irish coach Joe Schmidt, but New Zealand were simply magnificent. Crestfallen Schmidt might have thought he was doing a walk of shame as he headed down to the pitch on 80 minutes, but every Ireland fan along the way lifted him every step of the way. They gave him pats on the back and shakes of the hand — because despite this evisceration, Irish rugby is in a better state now than when he arrived in 2013. … [Read more...] about New Zealand 46-14 Ireland: Seven-try All Blacks hammer Irish to set up mouthwatering England semi-final

IRELAND raced in seven tries past a hapless Samoan side. But they are at the mercy of mother nature to determine whether they face New Zealand or South Africa in the quarter-finals. It all depends of whether Scotland play Japan on Sunday. Johnny Sexton was back to his best with two tries of his own — but Bundee Aki's red card rules him out of the huge last-eight match. He collided with Ulupano Suteni's head with his shoulder on the half-hour mark and there was no mitigating circumstances for the referee to downgrade it to yellow after consulting the TMO. But the sharpness of Sexton, Conor Murray and in particular Jordan Larmour and Keith Earls caught the eye.Ireland are not showing the sort of form that thrusted them to world No1 a year ago after they beat the All Blacks in Dublin. Yet there are signs players who had a dip in form last year are back in form, especially Sexton, Murray, CJ Stander and Rory Best. Jacinda Ardern has said she will do all she can to stop a man accused of killing 51 Muslim worshippers from spreading his message of hate at his trial, and hopes artificial intelligence will one day stop such attacks from being broadcast online. Ardern said in an interview with the Associated Press that she thought Brenton Tarrant, who has been charged with 51 counts of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder and one count of terrorism over the 15 March attack, would try to use his trial starting in June to promote his views. “It’s clear that a part of this individual’s motivation is creating a platform for himself. I think that’s absolutely clear,” she said. “And I think every opportunity we can to deprive the alleged terrorist of that should be utilised.” Ardern said she was limited in what she could do but was encouraged by the pledge of New Zealand’s major media outlets to avoid promoting white supremacist ideology when covering the … [Read more...] about Jacinda Ardern says Christchurch trial should not be platform for hate
The R&B singer R Kelly, who is facing multiple accusations of sexual abuse, has announced a tour to Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, prompting concern from members of the public and some MPs. The tour, which was announced in social media posts from the singer – but was accompanied by no dates or venues – comes in the wake of an explosive documentary detailing allegations that the artist has been sexually and physically abusing women for decades. R Kelly has denied the allegations, and has faced no criminal convictions. The Australian shadow minister for immigration and border protection, Shayne Neumann, has said the Labor party would be “seriously concerned” if Kelly was allowed into the country. In January, a previously announced February tour of Australasia fell by the wayside, after Kelly claimed that the tour news was “fake”, and the promoter abandoned it. “Watch my social media ... when it’s time for my next international … [Read more...] about R Kelly Australia tour raises ‘serious concerns’ amid sex abuse allegations
